^^^nice try but i had no trade in. and i got a 5.4 interest rate, which was the best going at the time (other than credit unions.) i had dealers fighting for my business....it wasn't that hard.

people just hate believing someone else managed to get a better deal than they did.

Happy Madison,

Could you please share which dealer in Denver you ended up doing business with? If I buy from them I will let them know you referred me and they probably would give you a referral bonus.

Thanks.

ur full of it, u have NO idea how dealerships work do ya, they don't buy at invoice, the invoice we see online may or may not be what they truely buy it for, they have a buy back (hold back) system of 2% of the MSRP so they can easily sell under this so called "invoice" you see on the internet which is usually NOT THE TRUE INVOICE, then they have your trade in or financing, then theres trade ins, they could care less to make a profit off the new car they're selling you as the profit they could make from a used car could be so much more than if they sold a new car to you for MSRP (this is a common trick where they give u a great deal like hundreds under invoice, but undercut u on trade in if you arn't paying attention), and then theres financing, sales people get a cut of that intrest you pay on the car which could eqate to a nice 1500 dollars for the dealership which is around the same price they would make for selling a car at MSRP. THis is my knowleage of how dealerships work and is confirmed by 2 onlines sources and a friend of mine that was a sales person for acura (that's y i have an RSX lol)

I picked up my MR for $1,000 under MSRP.

MSRP was $36,894 my price was $35,894 and they waived the $250 processing fee.

I paid 34,500 for my 06 IX MR this weekend. That does not include TTL or the gap and wheel/tire insurance.

Got this from having two dealers fight over the sale. One would give a price and the other would beat it. Worked out great for me.

Like Girlie said..I had 4 dealers fighting over it. I finally got it for the 33.8 that I said before. It went like this, 34,300 plus the $500 college diploma rebate. I had no financing either if that helps. No trades, just an outright purchase of the car. That whole thing with $100 over invoice or whatever they tell you your supposedly paying is BS. Unless my car is going to drop the engine and trans after 6months, and they just wanted to get rid of a lemon..thats the price I paid.

SEE Ballistic speeds post above about the invoice bs. If i told you i was making 100 dollers off of you buying my car, my dealership would be out of business! 100 bucks wouldnt even pay for the phone and utilities of that place for a day. At 33.8 they made money on me, otherwise why would they give my that price? Dealerships are in business to make money. Like any other business they dont care what theyre selling as long as it makes them money. If you want an MR tell them you want it for 100 dollers over invoice or whatever....just remember that I paid 33,8 and why shouldnt you?

Man.. everyone is a little upset that mystang97 got a sweet deal on his purchase. ^^ but as for me.. I'm trilled bc i'm in process of looking for an 06MR. Thanks mystang now I'm confident walking into a dealer looking for 34-35k for my deal. I called around 3 phila dealers last night and ALL 3 dealers have 06 evo 9 MR in GG. One dealer said right off the back "yeah we discount here... we're here to sell cars not hold on to them" I didn't even ask!
I bought few cars before and they were all below invoice price. (04wrx, 04sonata, 05 ex330) The sonata I got was over $1000 under invoice... the dealer was straight out honest with us. He said he'll make no profit from this sale except for adding to he's number of sale for this month (he said he makes the most sales each month, in the east coast hyundai dealers)... SO he took the invoice price.. subtracted $500 he gets when he sells the car, another $5xx since his dealer sells the most hyundai and another couple hundred for this and that. I was shocked. So the dealer makes a little over a $1000 if he simply sells it for invoice. my 3 cent

Hi guys,

Regarding the invoice and dealer cost questions, I believe it depends on several factors.

Invoice is generally the price the dealer "pays" for the car. This does not mean the dealer can't make money selling the car at or below invoice. Some manufacturers provide a "holdback" which may be a percentage of the MSRP (1%, 2%, etc.). Generally, a dealer may use this to pay rent and other expenses, but it's also profit. I think the longer the car sits on the lot, the less of the holdback they get. There are also other inventives that dealers can use to make profit. The salesperson however, may or may not get any of this profit...

Your best bet is to get as much information as possible, know what incentives, holdback, etc. are applicable to the car you're buying. There are lots of articles out there on techniques to get the best price, like faxing offers directly to managers at several dealers in your area to see if they will accept a deal like $500 below invoice or whatever.

Also, keep in mind that you should negotiate the best price on the car, and also the trade-in and financing if applicable. The dealer may try to gouge you on the trade, so be aware of what would be fair. Also, the dealer can make money on financing, so you can use that as bargaining power. I don't like to sit there and play games where the salesman goes back to the manager over and over, I have an idea of what I'll pay up front. BTW, I don't think that paying cash will necessarily help, since the dealer can make money if they finance it. They would get the peace of mind in knowing that it won't be a collections case later though, heh.

BTW, the last car I bought was my wife's 2004 Honda CRV EX. We got it for $500 below invoice. After buying it, I asked my good friend (best man at my wedding and now manager at a Honda-Porsche-Audi dealer) what he would have done for me. He quoted me a price that was $700 more than I paid, lol. He was surprised when he found out what I paid. On the flip side, I got my Evo for slightly below MSRP. I should have followed my own advice, but hey I wanted the car, heh. Again, a "good" price will depend on the particular car, supply and demand etc., but getting as much information as possible will be very valuable...

Take care,
