Just be careful.
Just be careful.
Is this an urban legend, or can someone provide pics/situation to support this? I am eager to get a set of forged, not cast wheels powdercoated, but have reservations over this issue. The shop I spoke with can use a lower temp, just under 400 degrees, but it takes longer to cure and the pc may not be as durable. They have done rims, cast and forged, with no complaints.
These will not be track wheels for me, just street rims, but if there is an accident, I dont like the idea of a broken wheel making a bad situation worse!
If I was just getting an extra set for track only, I'd just paint them a funky color and be done with it.
a buddy in my club powdercoats

It's not an urban legand. I have powder coated my EVO wheels, and I did about a months worth of research on the subject. Enkei in Japan told me the wheels were safe to powder coat as long as I used low temp cure powder. They said make sure of the low temp cure because high temps could degrade the integrety of the wheel.
weaken the wheel? highly unlikely right now im working in a sheet metal industry leader we do all forms of metal fab including powder coating,Yes with cast alum you need to becareful ,but to actually break a wheel come on.. it only cures through a oven for a few minutes no way should it ever weaken or fracture a wheel.. Someone would really be very unqualified for the job if this was to happen. contact me for p/c I also can machine the lip as well.
This guy just powdercoated his stock rims and I think they did a fantastic job. Looks very clean
