Anyone know of a place that can powdercoat wheels and have a variety of colors to choose from such as gunmetal,gold, bronze etc. I am hoping to find a good place that is reputable and has some sort of website I can check out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

where are you from?

 

Powdercoating wheels is very tricky. Make sure you call the place and ask what temperatures they use, otherwise it will weaken the wheel and increase the risk of it breaking. Make sure the shop knows what they are doing, just paint them, or suck it up and buy some new rims the color you want.

 

Are you purchasing a set of Enkeis off another Evo that you are going to use in place of the BBS's, or will these be your racing rims?

 

Yes, these Enkei's will hold either street tires or race tires. Havent decided yet...Thanks! Sadly, freakin USPS has lost one wheel... I got 3, but not the 4th!

I am going to be doing this in spring. A buddy of mine does excellent work, and he has done many of wheels for people before. He uses a slightly lower temp curing powdercoat to ease the pain of heating the wheels up. If you are interested, I am in Buffalo, NY, so you would have to ship the wheels over here.

IMO, the stock VIII rims are SOOOO dang cheap, i'd just paint them yourself. That way you know they won't lose thier integrity by over heating them during a poor powder coating. I use my stockers to beat up on and don't give a crap what they look like. Chiped, rashed, dirty, clean, etc. Don't care one bit. You can find a used set on here for $400 any day of the week seems like? If you do a good enough job yourself, i think you'll be just a pleased. Even if you find a good shop to do it, it'll still cost you $30+ a rim. That's race gas money in my book. But... Just my opinion.

EDIT: Then i see that you have a IX. Either way, those rims are starting to be just as common as well. Good luck

 

I got mine powdercoated and they came out perfect, just make sure the shop takes their time so the wheels don't get any orange peel or anything. FYI he charged me about $75 per wheel.

Whoa that's cheap!

 

I have seen some horror stories of powder coated wheels breaking and causing accidents.
Just be careful.
