Question about vents on front bumper

I got my front end off right now. On the back of the front bumper in the lower 2 grills they are black covers. I see the right one is for the tranny cooler. But whats the one on the left for? It seems like it kind of blocks air coming in? Which if you opened that up wouldnt it help open air flow going to the air filter thats right above there? Next question it probs wouldnt hurt to take them out would it?

One on the passenger side is the oil cooler the driver side is a brake cooling duct i think.

driver side does nothing.. add some ducting and make a cold air kit if your running an aftermartket filter.. of make brake cooling ducts.. or just leave it alone..
