Two little changes on the IX from the VIII

I just got the brocheure for the IX and I notice two little things......

1. The EVO IX GSR(base) gained 11lbs. IX GSR - 3274 / VIII GSR - 3263

2. The boost changed a little. Exact boost - 20.16 @3500rpm (WOT)/16.10 @6500rpm (WOT)

Does anyone know why it gained 11lbs.????

just got the IX brochure, it showed pics of weight reduction like 0.3 lbs off hollow cams and aluminium side impact bars and such... so even those weight reductionsover the VIII, it still ends up with a 11 lbs gain?

I thought the aluminum trunk was only a pound lighter then the non-aluminum trunk. Well theres one of the added pounds, so lets find the other 10lbs.

The super lightweight aluminum trunk is only 1lb lighter than a steel trunk?

Maybe the MIVEC head? Maybe the larger turbo?

Read the fine print on that page. It says those numbers for weight losses are based on normal production style and not losses from the previous Evolution generation.

This is a quote in the Driving Impression for the 2005 EVO MR in Sport Compact Car.

"Weight saving found across the evo line for 2005 include high strength aluminum door impact beams, which save 8 lbs. and a thinner truck lid, shaving a pound."

anyways good ideas bout the head (might have MIVEC stuff that adds weight) and the turbo is a chance too. Didn't they change the exhaust ever so slightly, maybe that add some???

Dont know if the trunks are actully aluminum, but they made it lighter for 05 but they might have went back to the old trunk.

All '05's got the aluminum crash bars. No change to '06.
The '05 RS trunk is described as "thin body sheet metal" but not specifically aluminum in my product guide. No change to '06.
The '06 GSR Enkeis are supposed to weigh less then the '03-'05s but I don't know by how much.

If you read my post above with the quote from SCC, it says that all 2005 EVO have the lighter trunk.
I don't remember how much lighter the IX enkies are then the VIII enkies, but someone will tell us.
