Boost question (Taper)

In second gear, my boost hits 22psi and then tapers to 19, 3rd it hits 22 and tapers to 20, and in 4th it hits 23 and doesn't taper at all. It just stays at 23psi.

Is it normal for the boost not to taper at all in 4th gear?

I don't have any issues but was just curious.

Mods: (03 III)

BR Stage III
264/264
Max boost 23 on 93 (No Knock)
Al Custom tune (263whp - Buschur MD)

I've heard the same over & over, so it seems normal with the stock turbo.

It does taper, but the gear is much longer. YOu just haven't gone all the way to 7500 in 4th. I guarantee you it tapers.

As for the different peak/hold boost levels, that's due to more load in each successive gear.

well said but what if he upgraded his wastegate to a forge unit. would that help him on higher rpm or would he still have the taper.

If he did the Forge WGA with the red spring (19-24psi), then yeah, it would never taper below 19psi and would hold much better at high rpms. This does not mean, however, that the turbo can efficiently make good power at that psi at that rpm. IT may just blow hot air.
