From all the stories I've heard about factory Mitsu paint, I'd say aftermarket is definately best. Of course you'd need to find a good shop....if you ask around I'm sure you can find out.

factory is best until you really drop a lot of money on an aftermarket paint job

their actually all the same product! just sounds like an application error to me! plus if you dont let aftermarket paint cure before putting that or wax over it it my do that...

I think the paint from the factory used on the car is crap. There are lots of better quality aftermarket paints however it does take a while for paint to fully cure so in that amount of time the paint is easier to damage.

Mitsu doesn't use a clear on the EVO. The only color that gets a clear coat are pearls. I know this because when my car was rearended the bodyshop was confused to see a brand new car without clear. I contacted Mitsu and they told me what I stated above.

As of now, my car has clear on the trunk, rear bumper, both quarter panels, painted edge along the roof and doors, hood, front bumper, passenger side mirror, and both front fenders.

Basically the only things left without clear and the factory paint are all four doors, side skirts, and one mirror. It looks the same and matches VERY well though. The body shop actually called me in before they started working on it and showed me that the paint didn't match from the factory. I talked to the owner of the body shop about clearing the rest of my car and he told me they way I take care of my car it wouldn't be worth the money.

If you want my opinion.....aftermarket paint is far better than what yo get from Mitsu if you have the right people paint it.

They also don't use enough paint, it's very thin and scratches/flakes easily.

I had read the paint job on our cars was bad but I never imagined it would flake after 1year/15k miles.

The scratches are what pisses me off the most, all of my doorhandle recesses look like I've been opening them with 1983 Kool Moe Dee 4-finger rings on.

Kool Moe Dee is the shizzle son.....

My only real complaint is that Mitsu obviously knew about the weird paint schips the 03's were getting on the drivers side door because they added the plastic cover for 04'. I think they should be held resposible and reapir the 03's that are having this issue.

Every single 03' EVO I've seen has this problem.

I'm just letting my car rust, haven't washed it since October. I think it looks meaner that way.

A dirty car is an angry car.
