Starts...with Evo IX!

Hy guys!
This might sound like a silly question but i have to ask!
I have an Evo IX for 8 days with 1000 miles allready... but i really dont know how to start good!
When i rev it to 5000 rpms and i lift of the clutch... my car goes on her noes and then goes!
I raced an 344hp Audi s4 the other day...and what he got on the start (like 3 cars in front ) were untill the finish (1/4 mile).
So...please ...tell me how to start and where do i shift in every gear (i didnt have time to test it with the G-tech)
Thx for helping!

You just have to keep practicing and learn what method is best for you. I personally have explained launching many times if you go look in the Drag Racing forum. The reason why you are bogging after a 5k clutch drop is because you are dumping the clutch instead of slipping it. You can't just let out the clutch all the way immediately. Plus, that will lead to a broken transfer case, too.

Shift at around 7000rpm in every gear when drag racing.

that's some heavy abuse for a clutch that new! I'm suprised it hasn't gone up in smoke yet. But if you feel it is already broken in, like Warrtalon says, you'll need to slip it just a bit instead of a dump. Not too much slip, it won't take a whole lot.

A good launch will gain those car lengths against that relatively heavy Audi in your IX.
Of course you could just get it tuned and add a TBE and put the smack down on it with no hard launch needed

Slip the clutch a bit more instead of dumping it fast.

keep practice,,,i was bogging when i was learning ,,,glad i had used evo...now i m ready to buy brand new evo with perfect driving skills...

launching tip,,,,rev up to 4k rpm hold it steady at 4k rpm...and push the gas pedal all the way down then about half second later u let the clutch out pretty quick....
let the clutch too slow will smoke ur clutch..,.,..let the clutch too quick will have wheel hop(u can broke the tc if its bad enough)
so u need to feel it............keep practice and let it cool each run,.,,,

I don't recommend any launches at 4k. That's so low that the only way you'll launch hard is if you slip the clutch terribly..

read carefully ......steady at 4k rpm and raise the rpm by pushing the gas pedal all the way...then u let the clutch out about half second later,,,which means u ll launch at approx
5.5k to 6.5k rpm range!

6.5k, I wouldn't launch that high unless you like breaking stuff

Mine feels good using the 5000rpm launch control, but I'm going to try it at the drag strip this weekend to see what kind of 60's I'll actually get.

That's not a good way to explain it, sorry. That's a classic slip method. If you're going to launch from the 5.5-6.5k range, then you start there before applying any clutch. You don't start low then rev higher.

Dsmfan, which tracks are open in NC still? I need to find the closest track to DC that is still open before I move to CO.

I use the quick slip method. I won't know which method is best until I get some actual times from it.

[edit]

One of the 1/8th miles is open for test and tune on Sunday. Farmington Dragway is the name of it.
