After thinking about it, it seems like they said that because they thought you were going to waste their time.

What usually works is just tell them you're pre-approved through your credit union, even if you're not.

Just go to another dealership. They probably don't think that your looking to buy so their f*ckin' with you.

All admonishing aside, I do not believe you approached them correctly, based on how you approached asking this question. If you had gone to the dealership respectably dressed, asked the dealer to drive in a respectful tone, and kept your car well out of view by parking it somewhere away from the dealership, I think you could have had half a chance of driving an evo.

I am 21, so I am by no means an especially old individual who would garner trust immediately from a dealer. And yet, I have test driven Evos at 4 different dealerships (as well as an STI, S2000, M3, Lotus Elise, and a 350Z) and I have NEVER been turned down for a test drive.

Its all in your approach.

When i went for my test drive... they only let me drive a regular 8. I drove 30 minz to that dealership to see the MR. Screw them... I got me a GG 9 MR from a different dealer.

Very legit response and duly noted. I have learned a lot since I made that sig....I thought no one read those anyways

I'm taking my mods out of my sig. Now I will get back to bashing.

Shoot, I WISH there was an option of putting 5K down to test ride a street bike before buying. Mitsubishi DOES have a strict break-in and dealerships should limit the amount of tire-kickers that want to "test drive" these cars. I bought my new 03 EVO with 400 miles on it!!! I wonder how many rough test drives it went through, considering I was one of them. I don't think the dealership really asks of a 5K deposit from everyone. What would they have done if you said, ok, do you take a check? Would they go out and deposit it right then? I think not. Like someone else said, they just sized u up and that was it. Sucks for you, and especially sucks for them if you were a serious buyer that was gonna buy that day.

When I was looking for a WRX a year or two ago I went to a dealer and first of all, the STi was out of the question for a testdrive all together but they wouldn't let me drive a new, new one but a used one they had and even then, we basically just took it around the block. The sales person came along and wouldn't direct me anywhere where I could really get on it....however I did what I could on his crappy route despite his disapproval I was pretty displeased with their "test drive" and promptly left after that. I was very close to buying at that time too. Once again their loss

Off this *specific topic a bit. I was at a different suby dealer and got in a hour long argument over the fact that I didn't want the OEM spoiler and wasn't gonna pay for it. He told me there isn't a WRX in existence without that spoiler and they couldn't get me one. I told him that's garbage, I know for a fact I can get that. He offered up the option of me paying for a regular impreza trunk lid to replace the *spoilered piece($$$). He then had the presence of mind to actually check their inventory. Low and behold !! spoiler-less. I was pissed enough at that point that I left.

My main point is I won't stand for being jerked around by a dealer. If that's how they roll then I'm rolling myself right off the lot. It's all good. I found my DSM after all that. And am currently searching for an Evo to back me up. I do know that one of our local dealers has an awesome markup on GSR's ... can anyone say 40k!

Dealers are fun!
