Evo testdrive = $5000 deposit ?!?
belive me, the no test drive policy is a good one. anyone who is anybody knows enough about these cars to want it without driving it. i got my evo with just factory test miles, and would not have wanted ANY test drive miles on her. can you imagine the insurance claims? people would hit boost during a turn and spin out.
First off, just go to a new dealship like everyone else suggested. If its that much trouble, screw it.
Also, to all the people bashing Fartmuffler because his name, its a Fing online forum. Who gives a rats ***? Its obviously a joke, and even if it wasn't, what do you care? I like it how you can give an indepth analysis just by looking at the guys name. Its just ridiculous, so stop it. Thank you.
To the people who said you don't need to test drive, I can see your point. I have already ordered my STI and I haven't had a test drive. At the dealership I went to, they don't allow test drives period (no even the manager gets to drive them, unless he is getting gas). They have had people walk away from a deal because it had 20 miles on it instead of 4, so its now district policy. I am going through them because my stepdad knows the manager and we are getting it for $100 over invoice, plus deals on tax APR ect (its all about who you know). They did take us out when they needed to get some gas in it, just to the station and we took the freeway back. Anyways, it was all I expected and we didn't even go past 5.5k. I would have loved to test drive it, but really it didn't matter to me. I have done enough research on the subject and I am getting such a good deal on it that it doesn't bother me.
I can also completely understand needing to test drive. How different is this from 350z, G35, and STI? Is the too stiff for me? You don't have a feeling for the car until you drive one, and you don't have to beat the hell out of it. So if you feel you need to test it, than test it. New dealership. If your set, start looking for the best deal.
Best of luck to you.

As a previous evo owner.. I went to the dealership and they threw me the keys to the new evo IX MR trying to get me to trade. I was reluctant to even drive it. They did this because I already own an evo.. unless you drive up in a porshe I really dont see where you need a test drive.. bottom line is the evo will be superior in overal feel to any car you have ever owned PERIOD!.. I test drove the new lexus right before and thought, what a piece of crap this is compared to my car.. I left that dealership with a bad taste in my mouth. You dont need to test drive an evo.. no one has every been disapointed, everything about driving it is perfection so why would you need to test drive it? Then you have someone who cant drive putting miles on an evo that hasnt been broken in properly.
I offered a test drive of my car to the sales guy lol.. I took him around the block and his face was like
after we got back lol The guy was freaking out.. and I told him thats why I wasnt to excited about driving the IX because it was gonna feel slow as hell in comparison.

When I was thinking about getting an 06 STI or an 06 EVO IX, i went to both dealerships in my SRT-4.
STI dealership handed me the keys without even taking my keys or even checking if i had a license.(guy came with me tho of course)
the Mitsubishi dealership, i came in told them i was interested in either this or the STI and i wanted to trade it in. They said alright and let me test drive in and took a copy of my licesnse.
So I think it really depends on if they think you got the money to buy the car or not.
No pun intended but if u pull up in a riced out SE-R or Honda Civic with fart cannons dressed like a punk kid and ask if u can test drive the 35k car cause your interestd in buying it.
saying sure 5,000 dollars downpayment or whatever.
is basically them saying **** off and stop wasting our time.
In your case if ur serious about buying one. they just ost a sell. but i'm sure lots of kids come to them and just want to test drive the car messing up the clutch and what not and putting miles on it.
Are you gonna pay full price with an evo that has 200-300 miles on it? hell no

Anyways, performance cars need much less test driving than your basic automobile or luxury car. There is more than enough credible and accurate reviews based on cars of performance to make-up your mind without having to test drive them. But, if you still want to test one out, and you have good credit, tell them where to go if they insist on a $5k deposit.
*Above is not a joke. I really like the names!! As for Urban_dk, yes, the pile of **** you made was not very creative. I agree with you. Had you been a cretive intuitive individual like Fartmuffler, perhaps you could have turned that lame pile of **** into something like a giraffe or a frog or may be a little statue of the " hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" monkeys.

Under the have theory, if you dirve an E46 BMW 328i into the dealership then you are presumed to have the money.. The bad dealership near here stayed firm and said they don't do test drives on the evo.
If you have bought several cars from a dealership sometimes they let you drive whatever you want. My family and I have bought several used and new cars from the acura dealership closest to my house, and whenever I want to drive anything from there they pretty much just throw me the keys and tell me to come back in 15 minutes.

If you can afford one and you know what you want, why bother with a test drive? Just show them the money and shut the dealer's mouth. If you do not feel comfortable dealing with that dealer, just go to another one and show them the money.
Money can shut someone's month

I got to test drive an STI at the dealership, but not an Evo. After driving my friends Evo, I would have bought an Evo rather than an STI or even my Talon (which is a seriously badass stroked/turboed/coilovered/etc car).
How can you know what the handling/ride feels like without test driving it? It is the handling that makes an Evo so incredibly desirable. Handling is not something that you can discover by reading brochures or forums on the internet.
