3rd GEAR NOT SLOWING DOWN!

Hey ya'll,

have an 06 MR for about 2 months. Everytime i run the car WOT in third gear, the engine is very slow to rev down and thus has the effect of a "stuck throttle." no problems in any other gears. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks

(has same effect as some do when overriding/bypassing 5k rev limit on 05+ evos)

I have NOT done this mod.

so you mean when you floor it to like 6k rpms and leave it in gear it wont slow down the car?
i think thats true for all gears, maybe not the 1st tho

The 05s had a delayed rpm decline above 3500rpm. I assume the 06s do, too. It slows down very slowly at higher rpm, supposedly for improved emissions.

I had no idea. Won't that get in the way when tracking the car?

It hasn't gotten in my way on the road course, auto-x, or drag strip. What do you mean?

hmm, i always thot it might have somethin to do with the car's momentum keeping the high rpms in motion... or somethin along those lines.... since the evo's 2 litre is so small.
i bet v8's dont have that problem, they would rev down quicker.
but im probly wrong and not making any sense... ha

I had an 03 EVO and never had this problem. It's actually scary to be driving at WOT in 3rd now as it feels like i cant stop. Not liking the feeling at all, but if there's nothing i can do about it.... shrug. IMO, this delayed RPM will DEF affect brake wear during tracking as engine braking is both more effective and efficient than braking in neutral, etc....

Uhm, well you're not supposed to really use engine braking at high rpm. Remember that this only occurs at high rpm. Below 3500rpm, it drops at normal speed. It was no issue for me or the other 05 Evos when we road raced together.

If you're slowing down with anything but the brakes on the track you're not doing it right

What Ike said You need to be decisive on the track -- either on the gas or brakes.

It's not that i'm using the engine to slow down the car completely people... it's in conjunction with the brakes a la heel and toe. but thanks for the driving "tips"

its exactly what warrtalon said, sometimes when you rev it up the rpms will drop slowly also.
