Downshifting without blipping throttle good/bad?!
Wouldn't not rev matching put more strain on the synchros before the clutch itself? I thought the syncros were there to help minimize damage or wear in situations like that, but I may be misinformed.

no, read what I posted again. It's normal for a rally driver to not rev match. What does Pannizi know, he's only won a half dozen tarmac rallies at the highest level or rally in the world.

During street driving, most people don't heel-and-toe shift during downshifts. For street driving, I don't see this as being a problem so long as you're not dumping the clutch. I've owned many manual tranny cars and never had a drivetrain problem with not heel-and-toe shifting. Almost all the race car drivers I know blip the throttle when racing.
Having said that, I'm trying to learn how to do this effectively. Takes practice!

Good explination of snychros stew! I agree, for just driving around please rev match, i hate it when im riding with some one and they decide to drop like 2 or 3 gears and just dont care about the clutch or the crank bearings or the transfer case/differential. you know that torque is gotta go somewhere when there is ~3000rpm mismatch between the sides of the clutch and a 2800lb car on the other, yuck.
