Do you guys think this is a good price...

I have been kicking around the idea now for awhile now on buying an EVO since the Supra and RX7 are not so weather friendly. I stopped by the Mitsu. dealer today and on the showroom floor there was a '06 MR that stickered for 36.7K with all the options after a few hours of haggling with the manager I got them down to 33.8K almost 3K off the sticker price. Now I know that 3 grand is a lot but I'm wondering if I could do better because I remember seeing a few guys say that they were getting them in the high 32's but then again I saw that there were quite a few guys paying full sticker and then some. I really went in there with the intent of only looking at the regular EVO9 because I wanted to be in the 30k price range so I could have some cash for mods and now I'm wondering if the extra money is even worth spending for the MR.

Some guys are saying the 6 speed is weaker and I would most likely change out the suspension like on all my other cars so the upgraded susupension that you get with the MR would be pointless since I would upgrade later anyway so now I was wondering if all the extra bells and whistles on the MR are worth the extra mulla. Also what's everyones position on the ACD which is the only other major MR option that you can't get on the non MR cars? Is that worth really having and does it become a performance hinderence later on down the road if I plan on modding the car? Thanks for any help guys and let me know before I let this one slip away.

Thanks,

Joe

Why swap out the suspension on one of the best handling cars on the planet? For looks? Mod the engine and leave the handling alone. These cars stick to the road like glue, fender gap or not.

if you wouldnt mind getting the RS then see if they can shave off 3 or 4k off the RS price, that would be sweet

Ok... did not know that the ACD was available on the other models... good info so thanks.

In terms of the suspension the only thing I thought to do was springs because the gap. I know that one of the best attributes to the car is its handling and why the hell would someone want to go and mess it up but I think a simple spring swap isn't going to hurt the cars handling at all. I've had 2 R-1 model RX-7's now and they are one of the best handling cars ever made to this day 12 years later and I'll tell you what I thought that it couldn't get much better until I threw on some HKS HiperMax Damper II's on one of the 7's and it was a whole other car.

I thought about the RS but its a bit to bare bones for me. I really like the leather Recaro's, power options, ac, and a radio so if its going to be anything it would be either a mr or regular 9 but thanks for the idea!

Thanks guys but no one has said really if that price is a GREAT deal or not or if its what the are selling for now so if anyone has bought one or knows of someone who has bought a MR car recently then chime in!

Thanks,

Joe

You need to track your car in order to find out. I was thinking the same thing, but after numerous track days, the evo stock suspension does understeer, and has quite a bit of body roll.

Also, if you work on your engine alone you offset the balance of the car, making it more powerfull, but harder to handle.

33.8k is a great deal on an MR. You should take it, most dealers are selling the regular 9 for 32-33k.

The RS has the same seats as the MR and GSR w/o SSL. RS also has AC.

The significant differnce between the 3 models

RS- Aluminum roof, no power amenities, no wing
GSR- no Aluminum roof, HID available if you get the SSL package
MR- Aluminum roof, 6 speed, bilsteins, HID, BBS rims

They are actually quite close to each other. I chose the GSR cause I wanted power windows, keyless entry, and the iconic spoiler. I did not go for the MR cause of the big difference in price from the GSR

Despite clarifying things I am sorry if I confused your decision making process.
