Question MR vs EVO: Is the MR edition worth it?

Now that the MR has graced our garages (for the lucky few), I suppose we should open up the "Is the MR edition worth it?" debate. I would like to hear your opinions about if you think the MR is worth the extra dealer markup for what you get in the car. My opinions are as follows:

Personally, I am not sold on playing an extra $5k to $7k for an Evo that has a 6 speed transmission and ACD. Also, I don't think most drivers can even push a 2003 evo effectively to notice the need for ACD. Obviously, the extra gear would be great for highway trips. We popped open the hood and noticed no "MR" bov, and the lights are the same as the 2003-05. Mitsubishi no doubt retuned the ECU, but how much is that really worth to us the consumers?

I think if the MR came out and was at most $32k flat it would be worth it. But I am seeing $35k and even $38k sale prices when new MR owners pick up their car.

What do you think?

Its worth it to me. Traded my 2003 for the MR. I have yet to regret it.

I payed 37,600 OTD.

MR is totally worth it. Better parts and well-engineered. And US Spec 2003 EVO is not GSR.

Here is the spec list for our 2005 Evo's...RS, 8, and MR...Feel free to make your decisions after looking at this...for the 3 major upgrades, the MR is not worth the $35000 price tag...just my two cents...BTW all the 2005 Evo's have the ACD

6 speed, hid's, bilsteins, bbs wheels, alum roof, seems like it would make sense. Because the GSR evo has the ACD and the front diff, it makes it much better value especially when people change wheels and suspension.

I think this poll will be inaccurate, If you didn't have an EVO to begin with would you rather have an MR or GSR? now if you already have an EVO thats different story

Most ppl on this forum already been EVO owner for a while

Worth is or not is purely subjective to each individual. I have an 03 and I test drove my friends 05 GSR. I put it through it's paces (not the odd drive around the block) on our local mountain roads.

IMHO, the most significant change to this year's model is the LSD+ACD combination, it's a shame our 03s didn't come with it like the JDMs did. This greatly helps cornering limits and power exit out of the turns. The 10.5 housing power increase is nice but not substantial.

I have yet to drive the MR, although I did see it, sit in it. I must say the Grey paint scheme is beautiful with the BBS wheels makes the car so sharp. The aluminum roof ( I doubt anyone will notice the effect) bilstein suspension and 6-speed are the unknown variables to me. Until I drive with the combination I cannot make a judgement call.

I still think at $35k, the car is well equipped as a factory street racer. If you are the kind of enthusiast that always likes to modify cars, you're better off with the base 05 or keep your 03/04.

Each to their own opinion but I don't think the MR is worth the extra money. I'm eager to see what the compliants will be after a few months. clutch? bov? tc? tranny? warranty?

No way. I got a new '04 RS for $26,100 ($300 over invoice) three weeks ago. $8,000+ is a heck of a lot of mod money. My modded RS will be WAY faster than a stock MR.
