Yup, ACD and 6-speed is a must!

MR vs EVO: Is the MR edition worth it?
I did see the gauge pack and thought that would be a good adder - maybe I'll add that to our car - not sure about the aluminum roof. I assume the curb weight would be less with the aluminum.
The dealer had two 04s which I was thinking about, but I decided to get the 05 to kind of 'split the difference' with an MR and at least get the extra HP/torque and limited slip front differential and ACD.
We put 150 miles on the car today and had a great time.

Just read all these pages. I agree with MARON. Good to see objective track times.
Lowering your evo is not the same as the lower cg of the MR. The mr has a lower cg but keeps the roll centers the same. The cg being closer to the roll centers applies less torque on the suspension when cornering. This is good for spring rates and sway bars. Lowering your evo(by shorter springs) lowers the cg but moves the roll centers farther away from the cg requiring stiffer springs and sway bars. Of course this is something that you would have to drive good enough to set the TTD to notice.

only six clamed but over 20 dyno proven.. but yes I see your point, its really up to the drivers.
ok...so my 03 has been destroyed. (not going to tell you how or why...don't even ask.)
but i am in the market for a new EVO. GSR or MR.....i am having such a hard time with this decision

I've driven both and the MR isa more satisfying car to drive. If cost is not an issue, then by all means the MR. Otherwise you can't go wrong with the GSR.

I see a nice improvement in 4th and 5th, so the 6speed looks better gearing-wise for the track. For autox work, I would think you are worse off with the MR's trannie, additional weight, and weight distribution. Some of that is offset by the roof, wheels, and suspension.
Again, each Evo this year has its pros and cons. Look over all the data and make an informed decision.

FYI,
All 05's make the same HP/TQ at the flywheel. So claims that the MR has more HP/TQ at the flywheel and are unfounded, and technically impossible. There is car to car variation which will be seen on the dyno, but MR's do not have special "pixy dust" which gives them more at the flywheel than any other '05. What you see at the wheel on a dyno may be different due to the 6 speed's gearing.

when i purchased my evo in december i went with a '05 gsr instead of MR for the reasons that im going to be modding the suspension and i have no use really for a 6spd since im not going to be tracking the car.
i could have gotten an MR instead of the new eblue 05 gsr but why? don't need the fancy roof, wheels (yuck), & 6 speed (if you shift right you're always in the powerband). i was unable to justify the price hike not to mention i refuse to pay over $700/month for a 4 cyl car no matter what it is!!!!

You were comparing an 03 Gsr to the MR. if I'm not mistaken.
The 03 was lacking LSD and some performance improvements that the 05 GSR will share with the MR.
I prefer a 5 speed for autocross because it will tend to hold 2nd gear just a little longer and maybe avoid having to shift up and back in some places.
Is'nt it likely that the 05 GSR is alot closer to the MR than the 03 GSR?
Plus 5 seconds diference?! - might your driving skills be a big factor as well here?!
