Just traded an 03 for one yesterday...Oh yes it is worth it. I refuse to give a specific explination in this hostile thread. If you ever get a chance to drive one. , just do it and you'll see.

God not this thread again. Lemme drop a few points.

Yes the MR is heavier then the base GSR....but not heavier then the SSL GSR.
Yes the MR is more money then the base GSR but not that much more money then the SSL GSR.

Yes the japan 6 speed had troubles in the beginning........who says we got that same troublesome gearbox here? The way I see it is that the MR clutch has a diff part number and the cables/linkage has been changed.....so shuddap about the MR 6 speed being so weak.....we dont know yet.

For me I went with the MR. Noway was i goin with a base GSR. So we were talking about a 1700 difference out the door between the 2 (MR versus SSL GSR). That was my opportunity cost.....and that 1700 difference bought me alot of parts not on the loaded GSR........and took away a sunroof/leather/upgraded stereo. Id make that tradeoff anyday.

And lastly...there are too many comparisons in this thread.
MR versus 03 evo
MR versus 05 GSR
MR versus RS

There are too many different arguments in each case........................stop confusing all the variables.

SO people that have the MR and have driven the regular EVO tell us, how does the Tranny feel compared to the regular besides the point that it has another gear? is it notchier than the STi's? i almost wanna get one just to have it for a daily driver and just further build mine i already have.

Everything is relative. If you can afford it, then cost difference is not an issue. Consider the MR versus the likes of an M3, S4, or those entry level Porsches. The MR will positively destroy them, but they cost $20 - $30 G's more. It's all relative.

You are not sounding too smart right now cause if you compare evos on the same level to this date (05) models, all you are missing is yaw control which is a module that can be install anytime if you are going to use roadways as an eternal track. Note this comparison excludes all fq models, some of though cars run 40,000 pounds and up=over 50k us hmmm.

It's all a matter of preference. I really wanted to have a six speed, graphite grey, and the other extra MR goodies. I was going to buy an S4 because I liked the old ones, but the new S4 was a big letdown IMO. Once I checked out the Evos, they were all an excellent value on a relative basis. I may have paid more for the MR than the RS or GSR, but I am still happy with everything and not regretting spending a bit more.

Guys -

I'm new to this forum and I just purchase an MR 4 days ago. I got a 1000 miles on it to get the regular breaking stuff out of the way.

I am a regular autocrosser and I came from an sti whose suspension was tune near perfect especially for autocross and traded that in for the MR. I ran an event today while the ground was semi dry and semi wet. I also had an 03 evo on hand with the same R compound that I have on my MR.

To put an end to this argument about whether or not the MR is worth an extra 5k, I drove both cars back to back in a consistent way. I was also benchmarking the MR against the usualy suspects (Porsche gt3s, boxters, corvette z06s and BMW M3s).

The MR posted FTD (Fastest time of day and beat its closest competitor the GT3 by 5 seconds.

The MR's suspension tuning is, get this (perfectly tuned). There was absolutely no understeer into and deep into a tight corner. While left foot braking, the MR is virtually unstoppable when entering and exiting fast and tight sweepers.

Turbo lag is near non-existent whether you're left foot braking or not. The fast times were all accomplished consistently without any hard launch off the line to save clutch. The MR is so fast that you actually make up for the little time that you lose at startup.

The 03 EVO on the other ran the same time as the GT3 and was also beat by 5 seconds. This was a stock evo with just a catback

sure I understand that you can take that extra 5k and mod your 03 or 04, but consider this, you would put your car in a totally different class that would run with other cars that also modified.

For 5k, you get a car that is perfectly tuned that you can simply just throw race rubber on and beating the sh*t out just about anything out there. I'm not exagerating. The differences will not be realized until you compete in this car.

I'm not sure how the regular 05 evos would compare since I did not compete in one but what I can tell you is that I was three second faster in the MR than I would have been in the STI.

DO NOT SHORT CHANGE and say I will just get the regular 05 GSR if you're on the market for the evo, the MR is the one to get if you can get your hands on one.

I forsee the MR being moved to a Super stock class in SCCA since the margin is so huge in the A stock class.

Just to give you an idea of how wide the margin was, I hit two cones in one of my runs and still beat the rest of the pack in AS.

Nice run Maron and good information on the suspension. I am really enjoying the MR, just waiting for the break in period to end already. No I can't drive 1000 miles in 4 days you sick bzztards. Just think if you did that amount of driving every day for a year, you would have like 91,250 miles on the odom at the end of the year!

Well I put 19k on the sti (mostly track miles and getting to the track miles) in 7 months. I bought this car for one purpose and one purpose only and that is to autocross it and take it to national next year.

The bottom line is that the MR is really, really for people who won't modify the car and won't track it.(we heard stories about the warranty and tracking the car). Also for people who wants the bragging rights to say " I got a MR." But actually we (USDM) got a "MR Edition" not a real MR. We always get the watered down version.
