MR vs EVO: Is the MR edition worth it?
I also like the idea someone had on page 2, about waiting 6 months after MR's have been bought and are just sitting around like they are down here, and waiting for a dealer markdown. I would do that for an 05 MR, if I went the MR route. But if I went GSR I would go IX with the revised 5-speed.
Does anyone know what changed with the 5-speed

Supposedly the teflon coated cables help it shift smoother or something (I don't know, though, I've never driven an MR). The color-matched VG can be bought for any Evo and it helps slightly. Someone on here claimed .1kg of downforce or something. Cd (can't do that underscore thingy) is supposed to be reduced by .014 or something. like that. I, personally, think the improvements are worth it if you plan to drive it a lot or want to keep it stock. It comes with basically everything I want, and I would definitely chose it if I had the money. For me, the base model also comes with enough for me and most importantly, I can afford one.
Like everyone said, it all depends on your values. What do you want?
The IX has closer ratios, I believe. I think it will be more like the older Evo ratios.

How do you compare the older Evo ratios to today's? So the MR is more for if you want to keep it stock but still have decent factory goodies?
The GSR comes with everything I want too, just not the extra gear. Thats the only loss I see right now. I can deal without interior amnemities. I loved the Evo when it came out in 2003 with the interior it had then. HID's and wheels can always be bought I guess.
Plus yeah, a base model is more affordable afterall.

I considered the MR but I was planning on changing some of the key points of the MR package anyways. Bilsteins tossed for Tein coilovers and BBS wheels for 18's. So, I would have been left with an aluminum roof and a 6 spd. For me the extra $$$ was not worth it.
I also wanted a sunroof
(make fun of me all you want)

Well, you are also left with the HIDs, VG, exclusive badging & interior goodies. But all those can be switched out too I guess.
There's a post in the Future Evo Models forum called "Evo MR = Waste of money." You should read that, there is some interesting insight towards the end, that I learned when I jumped into it.

But it's great therapy for those who don't have one and need to find a reason to convince themselves that it's OK not to desire one

Mr owners feel the need to differentiate themselves ( that's dumb ... b/c honestly i dont get any tingly feelings b/c an mr has 6speed or alum roof )
Reg evo owners feel the need to substatiate their purchase as being just as good ( that's dumb too ... )
Stop trying so hard to differentiate yourselves ... they all evo's ... they all mitsu's ... they all cars ... they all have 4 wheels
deciding if an MR is worth the extra cash over a base IX or RS is all relative. some will say no while others will say yes. i was able to pick up my IX MR at an incredible price and have no regrets at all. the bottom line is that you buy whatever you like and what your wallet can afford
but what many ppl forget is that included in that $36k sticker price is the zero lift package. EVERY MR edition I saw has the zero lift package included. and that in itself is some pretty decent stuff. just my .02
