MR vs EVO: Is the MR edition worth it?
Great post...
"All evos are great and most of us are lucky enough to have a chance to own one of these beasts. No matter what trim you have, be grateful for it because I'm sure there are tons of people that can only dream of owning an evo."
... but along the lines of the thread, I wanted the 6spd, and the ACD thats why I got an MR.

It obviously depends on what you want but yes the MR is worth every penny. I got mine for 34,000 out the door. I love everything on the MR because it is all designed to make the Evo perform better. The suspension is also a lot smoother but I personally dont care about that and I love the GSR's stiff suspension feel. But I like cornering capabilities of the Bilsteins much more. Everything on the MR works and that cannot be denied. Except for the gay e brake handle.
What about the silly MR badge on the center console? I always thought it cheapened a very purposeful interior. It's something that wouldn't necessarily be out of character for an American muscle car, already adorned with multiple, tasteless badges on every corner, but its purpose in an Evo is yet to be defined. It's not like folks have no idea which model they bought and need a quick reminder.

All you guys are missing the boat... Why take a lesser EVO and try to make it into an MR? You'll come out ahead money wise if you get the real deal. I can't figure out why anybody would change the suspension of the MR unless you are racing. Also, why spend beaucoup bucks on a six speed swap? I don't get it. If you hate the MR, why try to make your EVO into and MR? Most people who trash the MR have not even driven it. Many don't even own an EVO at all
Some of you have money problems and would have been ahead buying a used Honda
. The MR is a special edition Evolution and it's fine just the way it is. As far as I'm concerned, making the stock EVO faster is pretty dumb since the car is already hella fast in stock form. Most ppl writing these posts cannot even come close to driving the EVO at 8/10s, let alone a car faster than stock.... Also, just changing to coilovers, no matter how good, is not automatically going to make the car handle better than stock. On the contrary, when the suspension is changed, it needs to be recalibrated and set up. The chances are very high that a modified suspension will screw up the handling of the car unless an expert is involved in the setup and the driver is good enough to take advantage of it. Even so, the car is most likely lowered which will cause no end of body damage, wheel/tire, and even suspension damage from driving on rough roads, potholes, RR tracks, etc. I've had both cars, the GSR first and the MR second. As far as I'm concerned my MR is much better than the GSR which was extensively modified (read: screwed up) by several "tuners". Perhaps if the GSR would have been left pretty much stock, it might have not been quite so inferior to the MR. But still, the MR is all around better for my purposes and yes, it's pretty much stock.

It was not worth it to me. I wanted a sunroof and leather, especially opposed to cloth '05 seats which I don't like. I think an '06 MR has a smoother shifter, but to get it means having a potentially weaker transmission, which I do not envy. I can't remember how the '05 MR shifter felt. The only thing I would possibly want is the slightly more compliant MR ride, but I plan on lowering the car anyway, so their goes that.
When I get an X or XI or whatever, they'll porbably lump the NAV, RF sound system with hardrvie, and sunroof into one package. I'll take it white or black with a 5 speed manual, please.

I thought I explained my point fairly well to begin with.
FWIW, I really like the Evo's interior: a big, center-mounted tach, all of three knobs and five buttons, a shifter that falls right in hand, seats that hold a body like the proverbial hand of God, a grippy steering wheel lacking superfluous control functions, and excellent all-around visibility. Dash strokers need not apply.

Now that's a point I cannot argue with. You are 100% right. The aluminum shift knob is freezing cold in the winter and hellishly hot in the summer. I love the size and weight and feel of it (looks good too). But the freezing cold and burning hot make me hate that shift knob. I wish the made one out of plastic or wood or even leather....
well i think you missing the point ... for couple thousands, you not want to be MR... you go beyond! Performance vise. and i don't know wher you get that " Even so, the car is most likely lowered which will cause no end of body damage, wheel/tire, and even suspension damage from driving on rough roads, potholes, RR tracks, etc." the good suspension do not damage the car! actualy you can get better coilovers then stock mr ones..and you do not have to lower the car ,just if you want it!
If you think you are gonna get better performance and the benefits of the MR package out of that car for anything near the price, you are sadly misinformed.
