MR vs EVO: Is the MR edition worth it?
I test drove the IX SE. and i bought the IX MR. The MR is the way 2 go. Its a F'KIN MR. Once u have an MR you wont regret nothing about it. On the other hand if have a IX. In the future you probably gonna kick urself in the *** for not getting the MR. The six speed close ratio gear box is nice. The suspension setup is nice. The BBS wheels are nice. The Vortex Generator is nice. And even the interior with MR BADGE with aluminum Shift knob makes the car look better. MR!
[QUOTE=silverEVO8;3874072]That's great, congratulations on your great success. I see you've owned the GSR and now you've taken a step back and downgraded to the RS..... I wonder why? You say you've "droven" the MR numerous times. But I don't believe you've owned one. Taking a few test drives in some MR does not qualify you as an expert on the MR, particularly since you hold a strong bias against the car.... BTW, your hp and tq numbers are meaningless as benchmarks to compare it with my cars. I think you are talking about completely different dynos.[/QUOTE
tell turbotrix! they are here.

and i had the evo 8 gsr ssl!!!

specilally if you now ,since 06 RS - 06 SE vs 06 MR handling and power.only diff the coil overs + 6 speed .everything else is same. now we know enough about 6 speed ,coilovers only for smoother ride with the same performance....
So the MR advantige is
but i think we started wich one is for what? don't we?
to each his own, i love my mr, i think the 6 speed made all the defference. and since i got 3k out of the MR wheels/suspesion way back when (i think i was the first person to sell them is why i got so much) most of the cost of the MR was offset for me anyway
then SE or MR is your choice!!!
i think the MR is a great car. But i think it's the one that most "purists" would go for. If i had an MR i would leave it pretty much stock with just minor bolt ons and bring it to the track every chance i got. I think the GSR is better for drag racing (less gears) and daily driving, and probably the one most people mod. I chose the GSR with SSL over the MR because i like to have my luxuries. To each his own, the EVO in general is an awesome car. Can't leave out the RS, which is pure track car. 05 and up GSRs have the ACD as well as the MR's.

if the rs would have come with a 6spd i would have gotten one of them from the start though. power windows etc don't really matter to me.
i much prefer the 6spd, and at the time it wasn't known if a 6spd would easily go into another evo (i bought it mid oct of 04)
i am building it though, haven't completely decided how crazy. the motor is completely built and getting ready to be set back in the car. still running the stock turbo for awhile though. i guess we shall see how it does

What some people are saying is that the MR "is not worth it". I guess they are talking about the price, although even that is debatable since the thread was first started.
I think everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, likes and dislikes. What I don't like is people saying things like the MR is not worth the money because I can modify it for $X dollars and it will be faster than the MR.
Basically, back when the MR first came out, it was a $35K car vs a standard EVO which was around $29K or the RS which was somewhat lower priced (I can't remeber the actual numbers). Back then, the MR had:
Since those days, all the EVOs have the ACD and FLSD so that's a non issue. However, some of the other features are only available in the higher priced SE or SSL models or the MR. However, the SE or SSL models are quite a bit more expensive than the base GSR or the RS. So the difference in price between those cars and my MR is practically nill. I don't know how much the new MRs cost or what exactly is the difference between them and the SE or SSL trims in price or features.
AFAIK, all stock EVOs are almost exactly equal in absolute performance. With the slightest of edges going to the RS because it's lower weight. OTOH, the RS gives up a lot in the comfort area. The GSR is also a harsher riding car than the MR because of the different springs/shock absorbers. I don't know if the SE or SSL have the Bilsteins and matched springs or not so I'll not involve myself in that comparison.
I know that one can go out there and buy all kinds of suspension up-grades (or down grades in some cases
) And all kinds of other crap to modify the cars with. Personally I don't give a damn about having a racing car suspension in my car. I drive my car daily and I'm not interested in driving a bone rattler or a lowered car or a loud exhausted car. So for me, the modifications path is not of any interest. Been there, done that, don't care for it. If I could drive my MR to it's limits, I might consider making modifications to improve it's performance. However, unlike most of you superstar drivers, I'm highly unlikely to get even within 7/10's of my cars' capabilities. Also, I don't drag race it, I don't launch it hard and since the legal speeds are less than half of the EVOs top speed, it's extremely unlikely that I'll drive it into the triple digits.
For me, the ratios of the 6 speed tranny are much nicer for my every day drive. The MR suspension is more compliant than the GSRs without giving up anything in the way of handling. On the contrary, the stock MR handles much better than the stock GSR. The rest of the features of the MR are just icing on the cake. Now, if you don't like cake or can't afford it, by all means get whatever you want. But don't try to tell others that their car "is not worth it".

also i never sad "its not worth it", you saying ; down step...can't afford it... if you got evo probably you can afford that money ,also we talking about upgrade .wich means you have more money, and not worry about warranty...
and i only sad which one is for what purpuse.
but away you talking about tuned car... you should be an advisor for JUN or HKS or Cyber etc. evo teams, because they started all on wrong feet: they cars the RS .
what a mistake , they all got a "worst" one.
