I have the IX non MR. I love my car. I test drove the mr and was not feeling it for the extra 4500 bucks.

MR all the way - Aluminum hood, fenders and roof, Bilstiens, BBS, zero lift kit, 6speed, carbon fiber accents, HID's.....its all good

Ordered mine from the factory - listed for $37,800 - bought it for $35,500 in NH

Props for Mancheter Mitsubishi! - great dealership, parts and service rock too!

well if you are into modifying your car then the only thing that matters is the fact that the MR has a 6 speed and an aluminum roof. but as i noticed the 6 speed gets worse gas mileage (from the sticker at the dealership)
also some people dont like ACD because it takes over for you, some people dont like a computer driving for them.
as for the bilstiens...who cares when you get coilovers... i say it isnt worth it for the cost difference.

but i sure would love to have one.

That's cool. It all boils down to personal choice. Many MR fans have owned other EVOs. It's really the only real way to know which one likes better. Funny thing, none of the MR haters has had an MR. I have had both and I know what I'm talking about. '05 MR>'03 GSR

+1. My MR is better than my '05 GSR SSL also. I love them both.

in my prospective no, the evo 8 MR might have been worth it due to its rarity, but the new 9 mr? HELL NO!!!! for the extra gear, bilstein suspension, and the exact same hp it was no contest. i bought my 05 8 non SSL for 28 out the door i dont see what all the fuss is about with that like MR badge.

I was at the same place about a month ago. "Should I buy an Mr or just get a SSL Evo". I choose what at the time (I thought) was performance over creature comfort. Either way I could'nt have gone wrong. It all boiled down to cost. I got an MR for the same price as the other Evos. While it is obvious that in the MR you get Aluminum Roof, Fenders, Trunk, upgraded Bilsteins, Zero Lift Package; if you add all that up and add it to the Evo IX then you are talking about a rather large cost factor. As I said I purchased the MR for about the same price as an SSL Evo IX.
I am totally pleased with my choice, and looking back I think I would have been disapointed if I hadn't gone with the MR. Everyone has thier own opinion--is it worth it?----to me it was and still is.

My 06 MR is soooo much better to live with, carve up Mountains with and is a much smoother and faster car. I'll say this from a suspension/power balance point of view...you can slap a big azz turbo on any evo and make it faster than a skunk with its azz on fire.

If you are gonna race -> RS (duh)
If you're a tinkerer (power or suspension) -> GSR
Gonna leave the car largely unmolested -> MR

Though my GSR had a sharper initial response to steering input, the suspension got a bit too unsettled on road imperfections, which is not good at 80mph while flying around a corner....it does get your heart pumping though! lol

Give and take...anyways iif u're reading this now and contemplating just wait for the X and be the 4B11T guinea pig!

You get aluminum front fenders with every Evo. No one has an aluminum trunk. Some RS's have a thinner steel trunk.

100% agree, I don't beleive spending the extra dinero if you are going to mod the car anyway.

I have a MR and if I had to do it over again I would have bought a IX SE.
I bought a MR cause well MR stand for Mitsubishi Racing and I planned on
being a track day toy and second as a DD. Soon after I purchased mine
all the problems with the 4th gear on the 6-speed started poping up.
So if you plan on tracking get a 5-speed.

You should have gotten the RS.... Anyway, sorry to hear about your problems with the 4th gear. I don't track my car or race it so I have had zero problems with it. I've over 32K miles of trouble free driving. The only thing I don't like about the EVO (all of them) is that they don't have the DSG tranny and they are a little too spartan for a daily driver. I think the EVO X is going to solve all those issues. I'm looking forward to getting one of those when the time comes. In the mean time, the MR is a much better choice for me. I never regretted getting it instead of another non-MR EVO.
