MR vs EVO: Is the MR edition worth it?
That is right everyone defends their own.. and its a good thing but damn.. like I said I wouldn't mind having a IX black GSR SE.. why cuz I like evos but I prefer the MR..
Now most of my buds who have evos kinda DOWN the MR in a indirect way but deep down they ADMIRE the MR for what it is.. a cool *** EVO TRIM.. and seriously... my evo is a regular MR but sometimes it would be nice to have the IX MR SE tittle.. lol.. def. gonna get a Black one but now you have me thinking GSR SE or MR SE..

1) You paid too much.
2) The six speed is more likely to break.
That's it. That's the argument. Here's my comeback:
1) I could afford it, and bought what I wanted. Yes I'm going to mod it, but like I said, I could afford all the visual goodies AND mods. And yes, I'm keeping all the MR specific stuff.
2) The six speed may be more prone to breaking when pushed for 4-5 hours on end at full boost under the blazing hot sun week after week. I've said it a million times, if you want to take your stock five speed suspension out under those conditions be my guest. The fact that the six speed is somewhat more likely to break under absurd abuse is hardly reason to not enjoy its smoothness every single day.
At least, that's the crap I get on boards. In real life? Shoot, I've had one person, and one person only, jokingly criticize the fact that I got it just for the badge--and even he said the car was hot as hell. Beyond that, no one has ever trash talked my car because it's an MR. The comment I've gotten most (in regard to it being an MR with the appearance package) is "Damn! You don't play around!"--ie: I got it all. Others, mainly guys from shops I've frequented, have all said they'd take the six speed for the kind of driving the Evo is made for. The kind of abuse required to break it is the kind that could break any stock tranny, so live it up and enjoy the six.
All models are great, I guess we just need something to complain about on these boards--I know I do lol

FYI, just for info, I had a dealer oil change for my MR and saw an evo 8 with a "5 speed" that was replaced because of failure. So to those that chime that the 5 speed is better guess what it is not. The 6 speed is as durable as the 5 speed-end of story
Well it IS a known issue that under extreme heat the six speed has problems, so stock for stock you could argue the 5 is a bit stronger. My point is that neither will break unless there are major circumstances, while most seem to be under the impression you'll be driving down the highway and BOOM! your fourth gear breaks.

If the number of '06 MRs sitting at the local dealership rusting away is any indication, I would say they are simply too expensive for what you get. That said, there is nothing wrong with them unless you want to track the 6 speed. I track my car, so I wouldn't want a 6 speed. If I didn't, I would want one because the more gears the better in general. Plus it's always cool to have the highest trim package in any car, especially for resale value. Personally I don't think they are a great value for the money, but if money were no object and I didn't track my car, I would get one.
What I DON'T understand are people who buy the MR, then proceed to change the suspension, wheels, and in some cases trade out the 6 speed for the 5 speed to have a more stout gearbox for the track (like lots of people are doing). In that case, the MR package is a complete waste of money. I also don't understand people who think the MR somehow outperforms the non-MRs when it's the same powerplant with nearly the same gear ratios plus one gas-saver gear. It's pretty funny. I agree it's a nice trim package, but that has nothing to do with how well it performs other than fuel consumption, and maybe more rear downforce because of the VG at high speeds.

Of course it's worth it. Prolly most of the people here will say GSR over MR
since most people here own GSR.
I mean c'mon, if there's a MR next to GSR, which car would attract most?
Overall MR is a better car than the GSR, IMHO.

yeah I would also choose the Mr.I have the chance to buy just a regular 8 or 9,but I went for the Mr.Its a beautiful car and the ride is nice. And I dont see the reason why people buy the Mr and then strip it,had an integra Type-r,i couldnt strip the car of its intergrity, then how can u call it that. This is what defines it,and gives the car its status.

I wanted an 06 GG GSR, but the dealer didn't want to locate one, so they sold me a GG MR for $34,800. I don't regret the decision. Owning a car with a manual tranny that never and I mean never grinds into reverse is pretty amazing.
That's complete and utter insanity. The MR is exactly the same as the GSR or RS except for the BBS wheels, HID, aluminum roof, suspension, trim and 6 speed (used to be the front and center LSDs but not any more). Why buy an expensive MR and change it in to a cheaper GSR?

i argee, and as i said before in this thread, what do you really need that extra gear for? also bilstein suspesion and the bbs wheels? when i purchased my 05 EB 8 i asked about the MR they said the last one they sold was 42 thousand. i was like holy ****!!!! if you think about it i paid 28 for my base gsr and as of today i already have hids, i bought a VG from rexpeed painted my color and i have my rotas coming in the mail by next month. tell me is it really worth that extra 5 or so grand when in all reality i got everything cheaper then and better then OEM? just too many fanboys going out buying them saying "YEA I OWN AN EVO MR!!" guys you arent impressing us. keep that in mind. also i just thought of this, if anything the rare version of the MR would be the MR evo 8 i still to this day dont see to many of them. as for the MR 9s i see one just about everyday in every neighborhood. and that ladies and gentlemen is the DONMECA's 2 cents .
Both cars share the same powerplant. What the MR has over the GSR is a better suspension, better transmission, better wheels, better CG (aluminum roof), better lights (HID) and better trim. Now the 6 speed is a much nicer tranny for everyday use and for spirited driving in the twisties, etc. That and all the rest of the options of the MR package make it superior to the GSR and increases the cost. When I got mine, it cost about $33K vs $29K fo the GSR. AFAIC, that made the MR a real bargain. For a few bucks more, I got a much better car. I know this for a fact because I've owned both.

Second, not everyone cares to upgrade their wheels/interior with aftermarket crap.
Third, if I wanted to impress Evo owners I would have gotten something better than an Evo. But I'll keep it mind that I'm not impressing you
People who only know about the Evo as a car always ask me if I have an MR. The SE is the best of everything IMO, I should have gotten that one in Silver. In the end, they're all Evos and few people can drive any of the trim levels to the limit.
