I thought my MR shifter WAAAAAYYYY better than the 5 speed. The 6 speed is a jewl to shift, silky omg.. The 5 speed is a POS to shift compared to the 6 speed and the extra 4k is worth it just for the tranny Plus the 6 speed gives you a higher top end.

"6 speed and the extra 4k is worth it just for the tranny"

the Shepperd racing fully build 6 speed is $3500...

and the 6 speed is doesn't give you more top end, compare to the 5 speed ./both factory/

The 6 speed has a lower final drive, doesn't that=more top end speed? Is that 3500 from Shep with a core?

I don't think you get a noticeably higher top speed with the 6 speed. However, it makes a huge difference for driving on the highway. The engine of the EVO VIII with the 5 speed feels like it's turning a lot more RPM at 70 or 80 mph than the 6 speed. Although in paper the ratios are not so far apart, the higher 6th speed make a huge difference in actual driving. To me that alone makes the MR a better choice. Also, I like the more finely tuned ratios in 3rd, 4th and 5th. It's possible that for a lot of people these finer details are not important, but they make a substantial difference to me.

im satisfied purchasing the SE model , i got the MR look , BBS rims , aluminum roof , hids , front lip .. all im missing is the vortex and basically im a MR without bilsteins. you can get those used for pretty cheap online , ive seen some for $500 with like 2000 miles on em. the 5 spd feels more solid , ive driven an MR and i think my 5spd is much better to drive 6spd felt loose and ive heard about people blowing out 4th gear on the 6 spds , thats what pushed me away from getting the MR . happy with my SE

I purchased a used GG IX GSR with 18000 miles on it. I later found quite a few things wrong with the car like clutch slippage, strut failure. So i decided to pay the extra 7 grand and traded it in for the IX MR SE in Apex Silver. Best choice I ever made. Great car!

NOT WORTH IT most people end up switching out the suspension anyway, and the 6 speed is useless

LOL, that's ludicrous . Most people do not end up changing the suspension or anything else. And the 6 speed tranny is far from useless. If you become aware of things around you you, you'll see that most if not all high performance cars come with 6 speed trannies. I don't think you have a 6 speed MR anyway, how can you determine it's worth or value if you don't even have experience with it? I've owned both, a regular EVO VIII and a '05 EVO MR. From my point of view and in my experience, the MR is a better car. Of course, YMMV, etc.

^^^ Agreed^^^ All EVOs are nice cars and quite good performers. The only people who put down EVOs in a regular basis seem to be some unhappy EVO VIII owners who don't have an EVO MR but feel compelled for some reason to put down the MR.... I don't understand it, it doesn't make sense unless is a case of sour grapes. I now drive a C6 and in the Vert camp, they don't waste their time putting down other models than the one they drive. I've never seen a post yet saying that a Z06 is worthless or a C6 is no good or anything like that. And yeah, when I pull up with my C6 I get many compliments .

As a previous poster mentioned, most performance cars come with 6 speeds. STi, 350Z, GT500, etc. The five speed, at least to me, is great for little Integras, but for a high performance track car the 6 is the way to go.

And yes, I agree with you completely silverEVO8. I'm still a bit shellshocked by all the hate going back and forth between different trims, especially since IT'S THE SAME DAMN CAR. Some people spend a little more for added goodies, some spend a bit less for the lighter version. Some get the lighter version and then spend money getting what they could have had in the MR, others get the MR and then spend time taking out the things they don't need.

I really need to learn to avoid these threads. Nothing makes me feel worse than coming to a site dedicated to my car, and having people rip apart the friggin' TRIM I purchased. I'm sure the same could be said for a lot of other folks, but it's just human nature to defend what you own.

That is right everyone defends their own.. and its a good thing but damn.. like I said I wouldn't mind having a IX black GSR SE.. why cuz I like evos but I prefer the MR..

Now most of my buds who have evos kinda DOWN the MR in a indirect way but deep down they ADMIRE the MR for what it is.. a cool *** EVO TRIM.. and seriously... my evo is a regular MR but sometimes it would be nice to have the IX MR SE tittle.. lol.. def. gonna get a Black one but now you have me thinking GSR SE or MR SE..
