Aw dude I hear ya lol

I got my MR for all the JDM goodness and now all I hear are people telling me it's a "tuner car" and made to be modified. Soooo I need to throw in an aftermarket vortex generator in order to be cool? Not one from the factory? I need blinging wheels instead of some nice BBS ones? And as you mentioned, I need to stay (mostly) stock just because I have the MR?

Just because I prefer a clean, OEM looking car instead of an aftermarket crapfest doesn't mean I can't build it up into a serious beast. Now I admit, if you're going for 6-700hp and plan on the car living at the track, yeah, you probably don't need the goodies that come with the MR. But don't assume that because my money bought OEM "bling" that I can't also buy a little extra horsepower as well.

Oh yeah, thinking along those lines don't forget things like great huge brakes with ABS, great suspensions, AWD and a host of other features that make the cars easier and safet to drive..
And what's so surprising about a lighter car with the same power being faster than the heavier car? Besides, it's all about the driver anyway. I bet that a better driver can beat a lessr driver even with a slower car

 

I'd say that the MR is good enough to leave stock except for power upgrades. There is nothing wrong with bringing up the power in an EVO MR... The stupid thing to do is to change things like the suspension, wheels or worse yet, to actually change the transmission You gotta be some kind of weird unit to take the best parts off an MR and change it into some kind of modified cheap GSR.... Oh well, not everyone is doled out the same amount of grey matter at birth.

 

after all is said and done, that the MR is not a better car, how come the VG is selling very well? oh I see, it is due to all the GSR, SE and RS that want to look like the MR

 

your right same car basically, same motor, 6 speed not that everyone cares for, but thats why you buy what you want. but if its such a greater version and parts are of such great quality and performance suspension wise and what not why do people upgrade to 2 thousand dollar teins with the edfc and i myself do like the BBS wheels also why upgrade to volks ? i mean true it is a great car if your intent is to keep everything stock, but if your planing on upgrading everything then the smart thing to do would be to buy a RS or GSR. just my 2 cents

 

yes it is worth it to pick up a MR. I purchase my MR used a few months ago, and its great... 6spd ACD etc..... I paid around 25k for mine that had only 14k miles on it....

 

OK, we can agree that buying an MR and removing all the things that make it an MR is just silly. I don't know anyone who's done that, or would do that, but for the sake of argument that's a waste of money. Personally my goal with modding my car is to accentuate everything that makes it an MR, as well as add to the power output.

On another board I read a comment that said the MR was for people that knew nothing about Evos. Now, the person that said this clarified his reasoning to me. Apparently on that board a lot of morons were spouting off about the MR having more performance, or something to that effect. So, with that said, I understand why this person said what they did and am not looking to start any fights.

Still, its comments like that which really upset me (as I made sure to point out). I had read up on Evos long before I was able to own one, and had pretty much been in love with them since I first saw Initial D http://www.vistech.net/users/screamer/evo/6.jpg When I was finally able to buy one, I wanted the one all the reviews focused on--the 6 speed MR. I read a few side by side comparisons, and while I'd heard the 6 speed may be slightly weaker under extreme (and I mean extreme) conditions, I was more concerned about Evo trannies in general. Sure the 5 was stronger, but that didn't make it strong.

For that reason I considered it a non-issue. I was then faced with another choice: buy a car that looked different from other models, or get a cheaper one and throw in a bunch of aftermarket stuff? Rather than risk wheels that don't quite work, or a suspension that's subpar, etc etc, I decided to get the one that had that stuff already.

The final thing that sold me came the day I drove onto the lot. I saw the regular IX's lined up, and while they were nice, they looked so--plain. They had different colors, but inside it was pretty dull. The leather shifter, rubber pedals, no gauges...then I saw the MR (or more accurately, the MR with the apperance package, aka MR SE). It stood out from all the others, shining in the sunlight, and looking like a very naughty girl.

I took a few test drives, and while the regular IX was fun, the shifting was rough and overall it felt too bland. I wanted to stand out a bit more, and since I had the money, I went with the much sexier, much smoother MR.

We truly have some dumb people making some stupid arguments. But if it wasnt for these individuals, I wouldnt feel better about myself.

There are a few things nice about the MR....bilsteins, 6 speed for lower RPM during highway cruises. But they dont come in EB and no sunroof and leather. Performance wise all the evos perform very similar to each other. Dont believe everything you read, it all comes down to driver and skill.

But who freaking cares they are all evos. unless you are building a straightup drag car get what ever you want....most likely you are going to get a dogbox anyhow

 

I'll take my SSL over any MR, but maybe that's just me.

I don't track the car everyday, and I find the leather interior, sunroof, and infiniti system much more appealing.

having a bilstein suspension, BBS wheels, and vortex generator maybe nice,

but I find having my robi-spec megans, NT0-3+Ms, and aftermarket vg, to be just as appealing, if not moreso, than the stock mr components


oh and LOL at the statement that said the MR is for ppl who basically know nothing about evos.

Wow another MR best for stock..... If your gonna strip the cars interior ya get a rs. BOTH MR RS GSR CAN ALL HAVE THE SAME HP/TORQUE GAINS. But hey maybe you want power windows for the summer time when you wanna crack all the windows half way , try doin that in a rs. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA What do you rs guys do pull over and get out and then crack em all , thats a great daily? As for MR best for daily who said you cant have 500hp Daily Driver , and even if you wanted a 1000hp MR why cant you? O cause its a MR LOL seems like some people try to influence people to trade there MR for a RS that would be retarded.

thats perfectly understandable, of course you buy what you want and you seen the MR and that was the car for you, my only point that i was making was i think its senseless to purchase one and then go all out and change everything, its really a waste of money in my eyes. dont get me wrong when i was shopping for my evo back in 05 i really really liked the the the evo 8 MR due to is rarity and also the beautiful graphite grey , as i said when they told me at that time they sold their last one for $42,000 i was like HA!!! i then went to my next choice which was a base GSR in the Electric blue and ever since that day i couldnt be happier. but from my conclusion after reading up on here months before i made my purchase was that the suspension sucks, so do the gauges because they arent so accurate, the prices were ludacris. thats were my opinion comes from.

 

As others have posted, as a daily driver the difference between my 03 VIII and 06 IX MR is quite noticeable - the MR is much better to drive. Better tuned and more stable at high speeds (also not as harsh - didn't expect this; perhaps it's the lighter wheels and Bilsteins?).

The $hit you read about the suspension, the gauges and the price comes from people who don't know anything except what they hear or read second hand. The MR suspension is many times better than the GSR or RS suspension. The gauges are as accurate as any other gauges and the MR (at least my MR) was priced only around $4K higher than a GSR..... I'm glad that you are happy with your GSR. I was happy with my '03 GSR too until it got ruined by some hacks, tuner wannabees... Anyway, I bought an MR *after* owning a GSR. I know what I'm talking about. This is not an opinion based on some other guy who probably does not even own any EVO. These keyboard experts are a joke, what a bunch of clowns .... Before you post about how the MR is some kind of crap car, you ought to drive one for a while and compare it with a standard EVO. Only then you can say what it is like.
