PharmEcis-- cut out the trash talking. For the record I doubt you could secure rock bottom prices for car insurance when you are covering $1MM liability limits for us homeowners out there. I don't care if you are DC or middle america. There are so many factors that go into auto insurance. These comparisons are worthless without knowing the entire coverage and who's name the policy is in, i.e. parents.

I'm another one under this same problem with Geico, and I think any other Geico insured driver close to renewal time will be in the same situation.

My last 6-month period was for $969.60, I live in Miami, 35-years old, divorced, no tickets or claims in my whole life (Florida is as expensive as New Jersey). Last week I received my renewal letter and my policy was increased to $1444.10. I sent an email to Geico asking why the increase and this is their reply:

GEICO General Insurance Company

February 8, 2006

Dear Xxxx Xxxxxxxx:

Thank you for your Internet request.

The rating symbol for your 2005 Mitsubishi has been revised. The rating symbol helps to determine the cost of your Comprehensive and Collision coverages. The symbol reflects the cost of repairs, availability of parts, susceptibility to damage, and other factors that need to be reflected in the premium for the coverages that pay to repair your particular vehicle.

We use the symbols determined by an organization called Insurance Services Office. This is an independent organization that conducts research on vehicles to determine their appropriate rating symbols. Periodically, this organization reviews already established symbols to make sure they are accurate. Your symbol was increased from a(n) S to a(n) U based on this research resulting in the increase of your physical damage coverage premiums.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

To ensure a timely response when replying to this message, please do not remove your policy number from the subject field or alter the reply-to address.

Sincerely,

Xxxx X. Xxxxxx

So my policy will expire at the end of March, and of course I won't renew it with Geico, so what other insurance company has good rates in South Florida? All State quote me (online) $955 for 6 months, if there is no other choice I'll take that one.

****, I got a quote for me being 18 in an Evo IX MR and it was only 800 bucks every 6 months through state farm. No Accidents, no tickets so far. I was amazed, it was only 30 bucks more than the ****ty base lancer per month.

well my update is that instead of the 626 dollars they quoted me before they pulled my credit.now that they pulled my credit it went to 1044 for 6 months!! its better than 1650 for 6 months....but my credit score is around 720 and there is no way that it could jump that much unless they count the fact that i just graduated college and am in first job.

i hate companies that think just becuase your 22 and have good credit somethings got to be wrong.

well guys i did my research yesterday and contacted some of the main insurance companies around. (state farm, geico, all state, esurance and then i got desparate and did one of those 4 quotes or whatever online...yadi yada)

so anyways...for the major companys...everyone who has insurance through the large name insurance companies will see a hike in some form or another. With gieco our car went from "f" to "u"...at state farm it went to a "25" (same as mustang cobra convertible insurance wise) so everyone will see something.

so what actually worked out for me is online insurance companys. Esurance is completely online , you even have to print out your own id cards off the internet. I went with Unitrin personally they gave me about 2000/yr and they do things through online but mail you cards and such.

just some info for anyone new going through this because it makes you want to choke your geico rep or at least give him indian burns.

yeah i guess from what the insurance companies said...its very high probability that if an evo is involved in an accident...its totaled more times than not....at least thats what they say...its just too expensive to repair.

married, 27 years old, homeowner. Step 9 (no tickets, no accidents, no claims), low mileage discount (about 4K/yr) and i get sucked out of $932 yearly. My 94' wrangler sets me back a cool $340/year.

I live in MA

I don't get why the lancer Evolution is so cheap for me. I won't complain. If anyone is thinking - they do have the VIN number correct. I suppose the fact that it's 4 doors helps. The way insurance companies work is simply mind bogling.

FYI I'm 25 - clean record.
Really? I have Country and mine just went up to 550/3mo. I'm 23 and have a clean record. I also have the $500 deductible.

I'm going to give them a call and see what's up. My age "shouldn't" make that much of a difference.
