I have the vibrant turbo back set up. I have NO cel's and i have a cat and muffler which is the normal setup on a stock evo. The only difference is the size. But the obdII wont pass virginia emissions. why is this if i have no cels. I mena if the o2 sensors are fine then how can the computer know anything is different. I need help on solving this problem so i can passs emissions. this sucks.
thtas the thing tho they dont use the sniffer here which sucks because then i would just put the factory one on and pass but its all thru obdII and since i have no cel it should pass right??? some one out there with exhuast that passes thru obdII emissions can u please help

Could there be pending codes that haven't thrown SES lights?
Stop by Autozone, have them hook up their scan tool, and see if it pulls any codes. Unless there are some codes in there I don't see why it shouldn't pass inspection.

The scan tool can read the actual voltage coming from the O2 sensor. It is possible that the voltage requirements for the state of Virginia are more strict than the voltage at which the CEL is illuminated.

The reason you might not be getting a CEL is because the O2 sensor may be away from the direct flow of the exhaust gas because of the design of the O2 bung. Now if you are not getting a CEL, then you will pass the SMOG test as long as they do not perform a sniffer test.
anyone have their stock cat laying around by any chance?? and i think ill roll over to autozone and have them scan it up. but for right now im driving around with expired plates and va cops succcckkkkkk
I live in fairfax county and couldn't pass the new odb2 test with my turboback wrx. BUT that was because the ECU wouldn't complete a full diagnostic cycle (from the time an ecu is reset till enough data is gathered to run the diagnostics it does). This varies from vehicle to vehicle, but expect to put at least 75 miles after the ecu has been reset.
If you have one of those cel elimator thingies that you splice with the rear O2 sensor your ecu will not trigger a rear cat. inefficiency code BUT it also will NOT complete a full diagnostic cycle either.
what i ended up doing was putting the stock turboback back on. i didn't have the pleasure of just switching out the highflow cat with the stock cat (because of the different design of the exhaust systems). But i believe that most (if not all) evo exhaust systems have the same bolting sections, so you should just be able to swap out the highflow cat with the stock cat and not trigger a cel.
hope this helps

Hey i appreciate all the info im going to go back to the shop and have em run it agin and see if its completeing the cycle and if not then im going to put a stock cat on and try agin. Maybe even get all new o2 components if all else fails
