They get away with that because people pay it.

What's the markup for it? In my area it seems MR's are all they have. Markups can always be negotiated usually.

The MR will only demand a premium price if the person looking for that particular car is willing to pay the price.

If you take a look at the majority of the MR's that have been selling on this forum they haven't appreciated in value to justify the "retention of value" comment.

It will be a while before the MR shows that kind of value.

I had a 2005 MR and didn't get jack for trade-in when I wanted a SSL Evo with the 0% financing.

Both cars are nice, and also the MR is but a hair quicker around the track. I found a good road/track article that compared the 3 cars (RS, GSR, MR) and went through everything from 0-60, 1/4 mile, lap time, weight, etc. and the difference is negligible between the GSR and MR.

But each to his own, all 3 cars are nice in their own way. I for one like the sunroof and open air feel compared to my MR, and the interior with the SSL is alot nicer looking than the cloth interior MR for 2005.

Just my .02c.

Here is the article for everyone to read regarding the tests between the 3 models for 2005, it's quite an interesting read and really gives some great technical information -

It's good to have options, and for those who will upgrade their wheels and suspension, there's not much left on the MR that you need anyway...
definitely with ya on this one. At first SSL attracted me because it refined the Evo quite a bit. But then it hit me - why am I looking for refinement in this car? Some people might be, but I'm not. The MR weighs in at the most, but lets not forget that ROTATING mass has a much greater significance than static mass. The MR has quite the advantage with the lightweight BBS wheels.

all in all, bought the performance car for performance, not chicks I'll leave that to my dashing good looks

Actually, the GSR w/SSL is the heaviest by about 50lbs over the MR. The MR is only 20lbs heavier than the GSR, then you have the RS almost 100lbs lighter.

I traded my fixed up Scion tC to the dealership and after some hard haggling I managed to get the show room floor MR for the same price as a regular IX. I would say I'm pretty lucky (Thankyou Glendale Mitsubishi)

Oh and btw I had a sun-roof on my tC and I never used the damn thing...so that never really came into the equation when I was choosing.

i'm having such a hard time deciding between the 2 as well. but i've also read that the 5spd is more precise and better for modding, which i'll be doing a lot of down the road. also they say with the 9 they improved the suspension so it's as smooth as the 9mr. the only thing left for me for the mr is the 6spd, which i cannot justify the price difference for. also i want a black Evo, and the MR's don't come in black

if only the base 9 gets HID's....sigh, why can't things ever be perfect.

perfect evo = black evo with HID and 6spd but i'll settle for the base 9 and use the price difference to make it into a absolute beast.

If you really want performance over everything else, it seems to me the logical thing to do would be buy an RS and use the $7000 difference from the MR to upgrade everything else with better stuff. For that kind of dough you can get nice lightweight Volks, nice coilovers, the Vortex generators, the factory gauges, and still have money left over for a TBE and tune and HIDs. The only thing you don't have is the 6-speed which frankly, doesn't seem to do a lot except bump the price up.

I see a lot of people who justify the performance difference of the MR on here and then proceed to upgrade everything that differentiated it from the other models and I always wonder why they bothered buying the MR in the first place.

I did have a deposit on a IX and thought... For 4,000 more you get...

Better shift knob
Better E-brake handle
Gauge package
Leather and cloth seats
HIDs (lets not forget that they are under warranty for 5 years or 60k)
Aluminum roof
Zero lift kit
Vortex generator
Bilstein dampers
BBS wheels
6 speed tranny which is far better than a 5 speed for highway and track use. It's not untill you get into drag racing and over 500hp that a built 5 speed tranny will be better or needed. I for one would buy a 1G DSM and not an EVO if I wanted a drag car.

Lets not forget that all this on the MR is under warranty. If you buy a RS or IX and put a crap load of money into it, what will you get back if ever you wanted to sell or trade it in. Now you have a loss, loss as most people (and dealers) are after stock EVOs when buying and selling used. I will be happy with the MR in stock trim as it has the best of everything. My only mod plans will be getting alittle more out of the motor.

This was why I got an MR

A 5-Speed would be better off for the Highway, as teh gears are taller. My 03 5speed has a taller 5th and would be better. a 6 speed would be better for a track and Auto X, of course.

A 6 speed has the taller gear (better for the highway) and a higher top speed

No, especially an 03 5 speed. I am not to sure on the ratio's for the IX but they are shorter that's for sure.
