what's a chip? I guess it's like a flash and therefore we do get "chips"?

I may be wrong but new cars have there chips soldered to the board. You can reprogram them because they are eeprom. Cars before 1996 pre obd 2 cars have removable chips. Someone correct me if Im wrong

Flashing is the same as chipping without desoldering the chip. The old socketed ecu's with removable e-prom, where you could physically remove the chip and plug a different chip with different air/fuel maps and timing. Which was popular with the european marque Porsches', BMW, Audi's here in the US

What do you think flash means? Flash is changing the information on the ECU's "chip", so basically we don't get a new chip because we reprogram the one we have, same thing.

I had this weird vision of someone with a hammer and a pick trying to dent their car to no avail.
