My EVO on a mountain road in SoCal
Yeah, So Cal has a lot of great highways to unleash the full potential of a good car. But, no I have been too busy to do a proper drive since then. I know Angeles Crest Hwy pretty well, and have done some mad runs up it in the middle of night during my college days in the early to mid nineties. I would like to take my EVO there on of these days. I think I am going to invest in a good Radar Detector (V1) first. I did race a new Mustang GT on the freeway for about 1/2 mile and hit 140+mph going uphill. The car was still accelerating, but I backed off immdiately after I was sure he knew was toast. It was pretty stupid, but it was late in the night and there weren't too many cars around.
SoCal dudes-- you gotta go to the canyons in malibu. All the stuff near Mulholland Hwy (between the 101 and PCH) is possibly the best canyon driving anywhere. YERBA BUENA ROAD is intensely challenging! Just get off the 101 at like Kanan Rd. and go west.
I need to try that on the mountain roads down here... waitaminute... the steepest hill I have seen in FL is my driveway... sheesh.
Roadtrip time to go up to the Blueridge Parkway, about the closest winding road with altitude from here.

Hey guys, I may not live in Cali, but in KY we got some killer back roads and we're known for some great hills. The back roads are those 35-45 1.5 lane roads overhung with tree branches and bordered with miles of horse fencing. Constant turns and elevations changes.
A friend with a new 2003 Z06 and I with the Evo traveled over 200 miles on the KY backroads this past weekend. I had no problems keeping up with the Z06 until we hit those rare long straight aways. The Z06 is just a torque monster the Evo can't compete with, especially at a roll. We crossed several county lines until we stumbled upon a Cracker Barrel and had lunch. Then turned around and did it again on the way home.
The Evo stuck like glue and pulled hard through the entire trip. A few times the rear end felt real light. Has anyone else experienced this?
It only happend on really hilly roads where the suspension could have just been out of whack from the constant changes and speed. The rear end never slid but it did feel like I was approaching the limit. I also felt the very mild understeer going into fast right turns. Especially when the turn happens the same time as the road decides to drop to about -4 degrees angle.
