evo reliability, i know, i know

first i'd like to say i'm a college student, my parents are gonna put down a 10 g downpayment on my next car, then the monthly payments are up to me... this is another sti vs evo post... i've done my research and my searches and i understand the evo responds better to mods, so if i plan to mod then the evo is the way to go. but it's not that simple, becuz i'm paying monthly on the 5 yr (60 month) plan i don't want my next car breaking down before i even pay it off, i want it to last 5-10 years, yes maintence checkups and oil changes on time will extend the life of the car, but the longevity of every car is still diff. my next car will either be a evo ix or a 06 sti (yeah i know, ugly). so my question is truthfully how will the evo stand up to the sti longevity wise... will it last?

Yes it will last. Plus it has a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty. You're good.

It always depends on how you treat it. Of course the STi will last longer if you are going to mod the hell out of the Evo and push it hard but not do the same with the STi. I'd say go with the Evo since,IMO and in yours, it looks better. And just baby the hell out of it.

I suggest getting an STi if you're that worried about longevity and warranty and such. That just means you won't be using either car for its intended purpose, so you might as well get the one that is more domesticated and comfortable for daily driving. The Evo is pretty raw, and although many of us drive it daily, we overlook the lack of interior appearance and less smooth drivability in favor of outright performance, which we then use frequently in multiple racing venues.

i really don't understand how/why people think they can afford this car as a college student. even with $10K down, you're still looking at $350-$550 payments, plus another $200+ for insurance...and this doesn't even consider the maintenance costs, gas, parking, etc.

That wouldn't matter because he is planning to mod. His warranty will be out the door anyways. If you can't pay to play, then don't play. Keep it stock. You can't expect to play and blame mitsu for not covering you when they don't.

It really depends on how you treat it, and how well you follow the suggested maintenance schedule. I know the evo can last, I see a lot of evo 4,5,6 still running good outside of US.

yeah, that's another thing i heard, that the mitshu won't honor the warranty even after telling u they'll give u a 5 yr warranty.

happy madison... i can afford it becuz i have money saved up already.

and i understand that if i beat it up its gonna break down faster but say hypothetically i beat both the evo and the sti up in the same way, which one will last longer?

You know people like you just bug me sometimes. Im a college student myself. Im 22 and still going to school full time while working 3/4 a time. Im already a cad designer, the evo is my reward for all my hard work in school so far. What im trying to say not all college students are broke. To me as long as you know how to manage your money and have plenty enough a month. Why can't we get evos?
Don't hate bro, he is not asking you if he could afford the evo or not.

Maybe they have rich parents. Or maybe they've been saving since the day they were born. Who knows? I know I can't afford it yet, which is why I have an 03 OZ and am saving for my Evo. But I've only recently started saving. Maybe this guy has had a job since he was 15 which payed pretty well. And instead of spending his money like most kids our age do, he saved it because he had a goal.

But like I said earlier in this post, get the Evo since you seem to like it better. Why drive around something you don't think as highly of(STi)?

That's a completely irrelevant question. I owned a 2nd gen eclipse pushing 300hp for 3 years. While eclipses are known as very unreliable cars mine never broke down or ever had any major problems. You can't say one car is more reliable than the next. I understand your young and that's how I once thought too, but it all depends on how YOU treat the car. Every car is gonna be different than the next and there are many factors involved in the equation but the main factor is the person who owns and drives the car. Subaru is just as bad when it comes to warranty claims. In my opinion if you want an evo, buy an evo. Why spend over $30k on a car when it's not completely 100% the car you want??

+1 on college student. i was 19 when i bought my evo, i put 0 Down, 9% interested (used) and i am not co-signed. I just am financially capable of buying one, and going to school at the same time.
