Evo IX MR spoiler destroyed!!

If you have the hollowed out IX spoiler. BEWARE of it being destroyed at very high speeds. I was with my buddys this weekend on a highway cruise to a certain spot we chill at and a twin turbo z downshifted and took off. Now I wasnt going to go after him untill my other buddys S-2000 went chasing also. So I dint downshift, just steped on it in 6th gear. Caught up and passed the S2000 at high speed. On the way to catch the z I was getting a mild vibration which I really didnt know where it was coming from. A couple seconds later POWWWWW!!!!! Looked in my rear veiw and my peice of junk carbon fiber wing was in the shape of a V touching the top of my trunk. Came off the off ramp and looked back up and it was level again. Got out at nearby gas station to take a look at the damage. Wow put a dent in my trunk and wing split a couple places. (have pics) So was wondering if a stronger 8 wing will fit or at least the carbon fiber insert.

Sounds like a warranty issue.

I believe its only the IX. Its hollow and has no strength. Plus all the extra downforce(vortex and wickerbill). Would it be warranty? Would they check the speed I was doing or would it matter?

Sorry to hear about your wing. I've taken my IX in triple digits a couple of times and I have no problems with my wing. I would like to see the damage so I know what to expect if it's a defective issue.

how would they check your speed. if you find it necessary, lie and say you were traveling down the highway and heard a funny noise and looked back to find your spoiler cracked and in pieces.

OMG... that's crazy. Somebody fill me in, why did mitsu go to a non-cf pillars on the IX? Also, after that story, you gotta post pics.

actually something being hollow should give it more strength depending on how it's designed...

not sure about the wing though

First off street racing isn't cool. Second Mitsubishi looks for any excuse to deny warranty claims. Once you tell them it just came apart and blew off your done.

Nah....all you have to tell them is the wing collapsed. No need to tell them where when or how. Just tell them you want it fixed.

I definitely have my concerns about the IX wing. If that happened to me I would replace with the VIII wing.
