And this technology is now being transferred to automobiles. A Vortex Generator tunes and directs air onto the rear spoiler's new wickerbill to generate maximum downforce at speed. Mitsubishi released thermal photos before, for the evos with and without the vortex generators and it appears that they do work at higher speeds. I will post it as soon as i find it.
And unless you're on a track, they're done just for looks 98% of the time.

Just what i said, at speed. And mitsu engineers had put it for a purpose. Cool looks comes later. Form follows function. That is why an evo is so cool. It may be butt ugly for those who do not know, but everything we have on our evos were tested on the wind tunnels and from years of experience in rallying.

Yeah, and how much on the Evo is created for the track and from track R&D???? Infact, why buy an Evo at all, just buy a base Lancer if 98% is just for looks unless your on the track all the time. Infact, we can just ride the bus since 98% of a bus is "not" for looks and is for practical transportation

Heh.

On the wind tunnel thing, anyone that's been up there, the Evo is a brick at about 140mph. The Evo was NOT tested in a wind tunnel, and if it was, they didn't pay for more than 3 hours of R&D in there.

On the rallying thing, you don't really see speeds of over 120mph, so aero isn't really an issue there, especially since most of it ends up falling off by the end of the stage anyway!

Yes, evos are cool, I'm with you there, but what I tend to differ on is the ex-hondaboiz who INSIST that they can feel the difference on the highway with the Vortex generator on. It's done for looks 98% of the time.

And Dayton...

Take your car to a track, that's what they're made for to begin with! Then you can keep your Vortex generator.

The evo is a tall, four door rally car with a gigantic wing. The Integra (and most other Honda cars) is particularly streamlined, low hung, two door sports coup, with a medium sized wing. No doubt in my mind, the Integra Type R is a sexier and more attractive car than the Evo. Put subjectivity aside, this IS a fact.

This is precisely the reason why modifying the appearance of the Integra or other honda's makes them turn into "rice" before the Lancer. In other words, adding “stuff” to something that is sculpted (like the Integra) VS chiseled (like the Evo) will undoubtedly spoil the look of the Integra before a similar addition would have the same cosmetic affect on the Evo.

I've been a Honda fan since day one. The last three cars that I've driven have been third Gen Integras. Don’t get me wrong – I really like the personality and looks of the Evo (with a more questionable attitude regarding the wing) but if I could get the performance of the Evo in a showroom stock Integra body, I sure would.

You decide...

Beautiful Teg.

IMHO, I think the EVO looks way better then the Integra.

Here is a pic of my Non-Rice integra that I used to have.

I think this may have a lot to do with productions #s (which causes demand)...

I think it's kind of funny how people say the evo is "anti-rice" because it's 'fast'. Sure the evo is a hell of a car, but there are plenty of faster cars out there that would laugh at you if you said your evo was anything to gasp about. It's all subjective. My 320 to the wheels would be laughed at by any Viper/Corvette owner on the highway.

I've seen PLENTY of stupid looking gaudy exterior mods to evo's posted on this forum daily. Just cause you drive an evo, doesn't mean your car can get away with body kits, neons, etc. I wouldn't even be able to stomach driving some of these peoples cars on public roads, it's just too much. If it's a race car for track use that's one thing, if your going to daily drive it, keep it simple. Stock is the only way to go, with the exception of a few things here and there.

320 to the wheels will give a c5 corvette a run for it's money from a dig....so I dunno what you're talking about there.

Honestly, with almost 400 to the wheels, I wonder how my car would do against a viper from a roll.

You can say "Yeah but you're modified" but when I think of "fast" cars I think of Vipers and Vettes.....I'm wondering....

Funny, I don't have one(vortex generator) and really never had a real reason to want one. Oh, and I am taking it to the track (Time Attack) here at the end of March-beginning of April and hope to see others there.

I do agree with the assessment about most of the Hondaboys though.

Rice is like pornography... hard to define, but I know it when I see it.

Why do you guys even care, its not your EVO. Let the owner do whatever they want, it's their money, their car. Jeez.....

And to the post starter, I will take that evo in the link over a "Dewinged" stock EVO ANY DAY. Anyone who wouldn't gotta check their brains.
