nope SGT, I am a hydraulics mechanic with no job to do in this unit, if I was in the AF I would be working on aircraft, I spent 18months in Iraq driving convoys becuase I don't have any job to do. If you want action then the airforce doen't offer much, it's a different job you fly, you fix stuff that flies, except PJs or SP's, the Army 's job is to be on the ground and fight, thats why we qualify with our weapons, even aviation is on the front line getting dirty when the S hits the fan

How was the sandbox, seems like a place to have your stomach in knots at all times or is it overrated when it comes to danger as long as your in certain areas. IMO the danger wouldn't be as bad if it weren't for the cheap shots insurgents pull, road sides, car bombs etc etc. If it were straight up soldier for soldier it'd be a whole other ball game.

I was there right after it started and it wasn't as crazy as it is now, I felt pretty safe doing the convoys, eventhough we didnt have armor just 4 soft top humvees with home made m249 turrets rolling through bagdad to pick up the officer's christmas cards they ordered or various other stupidness. I wouldnt drive now though if I had the choice. The country is smelly dirty and hot. depending on where you are the insurgent attacks are worse, we got mortared a few times but they just hit the PX, I'm always on my toes so I couldn't say that it is a chill spot, you just never know whats going to happen.

Ding, here we go.

Seriously ForceFed, you've started I don't know how many of these threads but, if you want to keep talking about this stuff post in the existing threads. Stop jamming everything up with tons of threads about the same things. Just because it's a new day does not mean start a new thread. It makes it a b*tch for anyone who may be trying to search existing threads and actually find some info.

after tech school(air force term) i though i can afford to buy an evo. but no, after all deductions and everything, you only have $350 or roughly $450 for yourself, that's without car payments, plus phone bills, plus internet/ cable coz u can't live without those espeacially here at the depressing barracks. answer is no, even you put a big down payment, unless you're signing up for officer. i still live here in the barracks, and it took me 2 years for me to afford an 03 evo gsr. dude patience man the car is expensive i already bought a used for $24K, dropped $5k and my monthly is like $380, insurance is like $200 a month (21 yrs. old). i can afford it now after 2 years, plus i can still have a life, phone bills, internet are getting paid, and i can still go out with friends, but i have to watch my budget. you don't want to work your @$$ off for your car right? just wait man coz the car is expensive.

To answer the question, if your credit score is less than 600 and you're trying to buy a 30k car (25k used) you have your priorities messed up. Fix your crappy credit then buy a car you can afford.

im in the USAF and im an E-3, i didnt want the new car, car payments so i bought used. i live Quite comfortably. im in the dorms so i have no other payments (phone). me and my roommate split the cable bill. I bought the car for 25K (17k miles) all by myself (no mommy or daddy). but i also have great credit and i very good with money. Oh and i just turned 21.

Forcefed,

I here you talkin this sh*t about the other branches "protecting" us (USAF).. this shows me that your clearly a moron... if you think the AF doesnt have the means to protect them selves, then i suggest you join the AF active duty and be a MP (military police) and volunteer for iraq... Your *** will be walking down the streets of Baghdad faster than you say "MOMMY HELP ME." If you think your a real bada*s why not go the Hardcore route and be a marine? Marines get all my respect for there dedication and relentless attitudes. I respect everyone that is in the military, no matter what job they have. Im deployed right now for 6 months (nothing compaired to Army and marines) and it eventually takes a toll on you no matter where you are deployed to (im not in Iraq but it i am in a desert near it). Im a crew chief on the C-17 and i love my job. but in no way am i a *****. I cant wait till your a** goes through boot camp and gets shipped off into a desert. well see how bada*s you are then. but untill then if you no nothing about the military then i strongly suggest you dont say anything that might affend some one.

Ps. my pay entitlements right now are: Hazard duty pay, Tax free, Hardship duty, and Per diem.

Word Up. Sick of these threads. When you ready to buy one then post the questions, not when you are years away from getting one.

I have a beater now that was half the reason. I COULD go active if I wanted to but I will cross that bridge when I get there, I'd think it'd be a good thing to do because chances are I would be in a nice area down south and if I bought an EVO then pff, sweet. I just wanted to know weather I should go with the SRT-4 and be VERY comfortable or your opinion on EVO ownership.
If you want to go ARMY reserv's then you should plan on being deployed weather you want to or not... My buddy is going to a OTS prep school (reservest) in Vermont to get commishioned and he just got tasked to do 18 months in iraq as EOD, before he could finish his training. EOD is Explosive Ordinace Disposal, he defuses road side bombs in iraq.... you should really read up on things before you dedicate the next 4-6 years of you life doing something that you might hate. Just a suggestion. You seem kinda soft and naive and I personally wouldnt want you watching my back in Iraq if you wernt 100% dedicated to the job. What im saying is just because you go into the military doing a certian job doesnt mean that you wont be in iraq the next year driving convoys accross the desert for X amount of months.
