I know I can make an evo faster than that, but I know that wont happen for a while because i'm going to be poor after I buy it.... What did you guys drive before that was faster and what in the Evo made up for that? What I think IMO that will make up for it, is probally the comfort and traction.
YES.

My 2001 Camaro SS LS1 six speed stock for stock was signifcantly faster than my EVO especially at freeway speeds.

without mods my EVO felt very gutless compared to my old car, but my old car had alot of torque and its the torque high that i was missing.

after adding a MBC to my car it felt better significantly especially 0-60, but on the highway its still lacking, but i plan on adding a tbe and a flash and hopefully it will solve that.

yeah! I'm scared of missing that torque high... funny thing was, my 240 had more torque than both my friend's camaro ss's. When I drove my friend's evo 9, it felt very "gutless" as you said. I've driven an STI and they felt better, throttle response and torque wise, but still, i've always wanted an evo, lol. so that's what I'm going to get. I'm depending on the same thing you are though... the basic mod route everyone seems to go through and be happy with is what I'm hoping will make me happy.

You will go through a "torque withdrawal." massive torque has a feeling like no other, my SS was completely stock and dyno'd around 300 rear wheel torque lower on the rev range.

The EVO does not have this sensation, so its gonna feel real slow to you.

After sometime you will start to appreciate the "appearance of torque" once the turbo starts spool, but its not like the immediate GO torque. SInce it shows up a bit later it makes the car feel alot slower than it actually is. but look outside the windows and you will see that you are passing other cars and things a pretty rapid pace.

After owning the car after a year, i do agree with the others though, that the ride/handling/practicality/traction of the car and just the fun factor of highway on ramps at full boost is where this cars charm lies.

THe charm of instant torque high from a stoplight this car does not have.

My current GST is faster than my Evo, but then again it's got alot more mods. Stock to stock, obviously the Evo is faster, but my GST has been modded nicely over the last 6yrs. However it's still more fun driving the Evo!

I have had a few cars that would put a stock or mildly modded EVO to shame (In a straight line), but still the EVO isn't bad. Just needs a quite a few go-faster parts. The old s2000 I had handled pretty well. The EVO seems definitely forgiving but the S2000 with decent skills was hehe, nice.

IMO the EVO and STI are both awesome performance cars, with the benefits of being 4-door, and still having good trunk space. I can take the woman and my dog out and still go shopping and the ride home can be interesting......all at the same time.

The numbers don't back it up but I had a '91 ZR-1 that felt a fair bit more stout. What a hoot that car was...

Well, my bike is WAY faster, and WAY more fun to drive/ride. I pick my bike over my Evo every nice day i can ride.

BUT FOR SOME REASON, I always wish i was driving my Evo, and i always miss it. BUT when i am driving the Evo, i forget i even have a bike..

Also i get excited when i am about to drive my Evo, but i don't get excited about my bike until i am on it scaring the **** out of myself..

But i can't explain why...
