ASIA SPY REPORT
2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII
They won't confirm it down at Mitsubishi, but our sources say this hotrod version of the Mitsubishi Lancer will arrive on our shores in 2003 or 2004.The Evolution VII is Mitsu's rally car for the road and sends a 276-hp punch to all four wheels from its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. This latest version uses a hydraulically operated, active center differential that can be switched with a dash knob for Tarmac, Gravel or Snow. If you're good through the gears, the five-speed manual Evo should get to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds and through the quarter-mile in less than 14. Don't be surprised, however, if the version the United States gets is detuned, closer in power and price to Subaru's 227-hp WRX.
2004 Subaru WRX STi
Subaru is deciding when and if it will bring its ultrapotent WRX STi (Subaru Technica International) model to our shores. Europe and Japan get the car in a few months. But with the success of the current all-wheel-drive WRX in the States, our sources say the STi gets the green light for '04. Expect power to be close to 280 hp (the current WRX has 227 hp) accompanied by a new six-speed manual, big Brembo brakes and an advanced limited-slip differential in each axle. The STi will even have a switchable water sprayer for the intercooler to help the turbo deliver maximum efficiency. Expect the limited-run supersedan to have Porsche 91 l-like performance.

Lancer also draws on world rally racing heritage that Mitsubishi hopes will make it a world-beater in sales-even if the company's U.S. arm can't convince the home office to sell the rally-bred, 280-horsepower all-wheel-drive Evolution VII version of the Lancer here in the States. Mitsubishi's U.S. chief Pierre Gagnon says he'd like to have the Evo, but pricing may be a problem, given that just upgrading brakes on the Evo VII adds $5,000.

Better VIII than never
Mitsubishi confirms its Lancer Evolution will be sold in America, starting in January 2003. While the car at the Los Angeles show was an Evo VII, next year's production car could be an Evo VIII, given the development time between now and then. Mitsubishi says to expect ``more than 250 rabid horses'' from the turbocharged 2.0-liter four, four-wheel drive, Brembo brakes and a sticker price below $30,000.

Well, all I can say is, when the time comes and goes, I will buy either an Evo VII or a WRX STi, even though I dislike the look of the Subaru. I will not buy a plain WRX with a pissy 227hp, nor some kind of watery Evo. If it can be tuned to 300+hp, it has a chance, but I don't want it if it isn't a real Evo. can suck it if they don't bring a real Evo, and so can Subaru if they don't bring a real WRX!
I hate the fact that the US, the country with the most $ and thirst for such a car, can't have it!!!! What in the hell is wrong with this picture? How many heads have to be pulled out in order for the light to shine in these *****'s eyes?
And further more, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Feeling better, a little.

Its too bad we have to look to Japan
Its too bad we have to look to Japan....our (American) car companies have let us down......Its real funny though - Ford, for example, sold a version of the Escort in Europe with a turbocharged COSWORTH 4.....but not in their "Home Land". So even an American based company won't sell us the "Good Stuff". This is so frustrating......and It makes me wonder. Here is another theory - Lets consider the real reason the Lancer Evo even exists......in order to race a car in these WRC events it has to be a production unit of at least 2,500 units......so Mitsubishi HAS to sell the car in Japan (at least 2,500 of them)......SO MAYBE JUST MAYBE Mitsubishi doesn't make much money on these cars....IM SURE THE PROFIT MARGIN IS MUCH LOWER ON AN EVO THAN OTHER CARS....especially when you consider the brakes are $5,000 alone.
The EVO is basically Mitsubishi's race ticket......and a promotional piece that they don't care if they make much money on.......SO this being said...it would make sense for them to send a CHEAPER TO PRODUCE Lancer EVO to the USA.......BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT US......They care about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
And they are GREEDY PIGS.......Who will eat until they explode.
