2003 Hp. 2004 Hp 2005 Hp

I was wondering, what the rated horse power was for the 03's 04's and 05's... I thought the 03's were 271hp, then 276hp now it's 289 with the EVO IX's... this has always confused me, also what do the 03's 04's 05's and 06's put down for awhp typically?

Do not forget the Torque:

03-04 273+
05 286+
06 289+

The reason I put "+" is because I think EVO's are under rated.

LOL You think they are underrated?LOL how about 40crank HP under rated. The European magazine AUTOMOVIL got 311 flywheel hp when they tested an Evo 8 with Superplus 98oct gas(Equivalent to 94oct in the USA).

Off course the are big time under rated..

Underated...

That's why the 03's dyno'd like 5whp lower than the ~300hp~ STi. And why the 06's are dynoing higher now... Of course, some think the STi are overrated. STi's got than huge torque curve that evo's can't touch though.

There's something about a bone stock 286hp car running 12's in the 1/4 straight from the factory that makes me wonder pesonally! If you search around, there's a few IX owners that ran 12.9 bone stock (so they say at least).

Has this under rating been proven? I know the older models were said to be under rated just never heard that the VIII or IX was.

Some of the tuners need to chime in with some dyno numbers.

car companies do not measure in crank hp anymore. they use net hp.

net horsepower is crank horsepower. they no longer use the "raw" horsepower numbers they did back in the 60's/70's. Net horsepower features the engine with all the accesories, (alternator, water pump, p.s. pump) while the previous measurements were just the engine itself.

get the upgraded hotside and you'll mount right up to the 05's if you own a 03-04. Makes a big diff on high end RPM's.

This brings up an excellent point. For those of us with 03s, the owners manual recommends 98 oct. MMSA later changed that, but I truly believe these cars were enginmeered for maximum performance on higher octane. I personally came to that conclusion after running higher octane and finding the car felt a lot more ballsy. I know many would say that the car runs rich and will negate any benefits of higher octane, but I would suggest trying it sometime to find out for yourself.

98 octane is RON, and is a different octane rating to the rating listed on the pumps in the US. 98 RON works out to approximately 92-93 octane under the "average" octane rating we have in the US market.

That depends on what the MON rating is. I'm not entirely convinced of the US conversion comparison.
