Without question, yes.

It has saved me other times when other detectors around me haven't registered a thing.

If you're alone however, and the officer uses instant on radar or laser, the best defense against that is the courtroom attorney that you'll need!

not all of us are well off, I saved for 3 years for the evo..... anyway, I have a question, do I have to monut the radar detector on the wind shield or can I just leave it in the opening below the fan controller?(at the cost of shorter warning time)

I have an Escort 8500 that is great. Most reviews put it equal to or better than Valentine. Check out www.radartest.com for reviews of all kinds of detectors

I second that ... can't be without my V1!!! Another good one from what I hear, is the Passport ... which is a little smaller and a lower price to boot.

My bad! I meant the Escort!!!

FYI radartest.com is a crap website run by a guy who is paid by Escort.

All the indepent tests rank the V1 the best.

The V1 is the best, hands down.

Had the V1 liked it alot but now i have a BEL Express 916 and i must say i like it better. The biggest disadvantage i saw in the V1 is it gave way to many false alarms. Plus price for price you cant beat the BEL Express 916

Passport 8500...hands down. I am a sort of radar detector conessuer. I have had a Cobra XR1010, V1, and most recently, a Passport 8500.

The 8500 is awesome. You can actually set it up to examine the frequency of the transmitter, and you can turn off spectrums that you don't want (Read x!). K is not widely used in CA, but I leave it on and KA detection is BAR NONE. NEVER a false alarm. Very state of the art circuitry.

It is $400 bones though! But $400 bones well spent.

The reason that I ditched the V1 was because DIGITAL Ka detection is really bad. CHP runs only DIGITAL Ka and I had heard rave reviews about the 8500. The 8500 lived up to it's reputation as being the best.

The 8500 is/was the best money I've spent on my car. It coupled with common sense has saved me alot of trouble. Also, working at best buy, I got a hell of a deal on it.

I got the 8500 for around $280 shipped from eBay. I don't know how well it's working, because sometimes it goes off and I didn't see any cops on the road, and couple times there are cops on the freeway and it didn't go off, maybe they didn't have their radar on. But it is slim and easy to use.
