Sounds like most of you guys are running street tires, so this won't pertain but Mid Ohio has issued a minimum durometer spec for tires used there in March and April. Nothing under a durometer of 50 will be allowed on the track for the NASA event there at the end of April, so I would guess this event will be no different. To make things worse, Mid O will be testing tires on site, but they won't give a list of 'approved' tires. That's up to the individual/organization to figure out. There is a thread regarding this in the Ohio/Indiana forum on NASA's site. Hoosiers appear to right on the bubble depending on whose info you go with (TireRack or Hoosier).

Any idea why they are doing this? is it because it might possibly be cold? or the fact that the track is fresh?

Yup, they want the track to cure before the ALS event. AFAIK it's completely new pavement around the whole course. Should we be worried that Kokosing did the job? They do a lot of highways in Ohio and, well, we know how good those are!

PS - I would like to know how well the Evo OEM Yokos do; that's what I will be running on my car later this summer. I've still got my Dunlop Winter M3s on the car because I don't trust those Yokos when it's cold out... had a 'bad' experience with that once while a passenger in someone else's Evo.

I will probably put them back on mid-April or so, depending. They've only got like 1000 miles on them as of now.
Yeah, I got the pm, I replied. I sure hope these oem yokos do well, and I bet they will. I doubt I will notice much of a diff compared to the re070 (oem sti tire) but from what I have heard the yoko has a bit more grip. I am glad that I now have a decent alignment (for oem abilities) , and the big FSB for this time out at mid-ohio I think the car should feel a bit better!

Tire selection has opened up slightly, this is posted on the Redlinetimeattack site:

UPDATE 3-9-06: They are lessening the rules for which tires we are allowed to use. We are allowed to use the Kumho V710 and the Hoosier R3S05 and Hoosier A3S05, as well as the Toyo RA-1 and other DOT R-Compound tires... we are not permitted to use full blown racing slicks at this event.

^ yeah I just saw that, looks like the rules just got repealed some, although no real racing slicks, but hell the DOT-R's are good

Alright-with all this talk about tires, I decided to bump up in size. I'll be running the new advan neovas in a 255/40/17 (over the stock advans). If I can still read the numbers on my recently well used credit card, I might even have to see if I can fit some coilovers on that sucker! (or not?)
I need April 2nd to get here already-I'm getting pretty tired of watching that vid of the track from their website!
Good luck with your car-prep

Just got a call and the event for mid-ohio is cancelled.
Anyone who registered needs to complain to Chris at redline track events.

I guess Mid-Ohio is building an AMA Motocross track as well to replace Troy's professional AMA track and this is what the hold up is.
Anyone that is upset needs to call Nick or Chris at Redline and express your dismay and ask them to bring it to Mid-Ohio later this year sometime or at least bring it next year. I know it's not their fault, so I don't expect people to rag on them really but just express some dimay about the ordeal. They are good guys so let's hope we can get them here before the years end. I spent alot of money getting ready for nothing and Beaver Run is too far away for a makeup day for me. If I had sponsors I could make Beaver Run, but sadly I don't.

This sucks! I was so looking forward to Mid-Ohio. Fortunately, after a great deal of negotiating I have gotten the green light (from my wife-mother of my children ) to go to Beaver Run for the time attack on Mother's day -May 13th.
Hope to see you guys there!
