So with all these Engine Failures is there any vendors offering an Oil Pump Upgrade?

Well reading about all of these blown motors has me thinking I want a little more peace of mind in terms of an oil pump. I have a fuel pump in my car to ensure my car doesnt starve for fuel, I feel the oil is just as vital and would like that extra bit of insurance.

Do any vendors offer a higher capacity pump capable of preventig any type of oil starvation to the motor? I for one would be willing to for go the cost to add that margin of safety.

honestly i dont think evo's have much of a problem with the oil pump.
I dont think I've ever heard of a situation here where the oil pump failed.
it is a good precaution though..better to be safe than sorry.

as far as i know the only motor that has alot problems with oil pump failure are the RB26DETT motors.

the only shop i know of is owen development in the uk. they build the fq cars for mitsu uk. the fq 400 has an upgraded oil pump. you could ask some of the engine builders like ams, bushur and others what their observations are on the stock oil pump. i know it alarms me when i come to a stop at a light and the oil pressure alarm goes off... and it's set at 2 kpa

It's pretty rare, but a few have failed in road-racing applications. I doubt I would consider ugrading the oil pump unless you're racing a lot, though.

ditto. worstcase you could go to a dry sump system but that is pretty extreme for a daily driver

I for one am very concerned about an upgraded oil pump... The "big" vendors who are not concerned about oil pumps usually don't put 25-30k on their Evo a year AND race it on the weekends. There were several companies who released upgraded gear for the Honda guys... if the demand were there, I'd bet one of them would step up.

Rule of thumb, if you have to tear the engine apart replace the oil pump. Unless you are tracking the EVO every weekend, I don't see the problem. Is it just me or is anyone else lost about the oil pump issue? How many engines have blown due to oil pump?

I know 3 other people in my area with evos, 1 had an engine die due to an oil pump failure.

Exactly why I want it, With my level of mods I don't need the Walbro fuel pump but I have it for extra security, thats why I'd like to upgrade the oil pump, Eliminate as many variables as a possible cause of engine failure. I for one know that if my motor blows and is not covered under warranty I am pretty screwed right now.

Im getting an engine built by Precision Dyno as we speak due to an oil pump failure. Apparently the balance shaft on the pump took a **** and led to a pretty crappy sequence of events ultimately leading to my engine having to be completely rebuilt. So the 2.3 liter stroker motor is going in with a ported head, 5 angle valve job and oversized valves. It will be interesting to see what it can lay down for numbers when i'm done. I'm looking to tune it for pump gas with the stock turbo still on it. Soon i'll be putting a gt3076 on it(soon as the bank grows. i'm pretty much runnin on fumes after this build). To anyone out there whos in the beginning stages of modding their car, take it easy with it. This is something that could have been covered under warranty had i not already installed cams and springs(revolver). I'll be posting the results of the build when its all finished.

Thank God someone's bringing this up again.
Having just spun a bearing I would like some of that good piece of mind also. Vendors I'm offering my evo as a test bed for whoever develops one. I pretty sure there will be large market for it due to the amount of people on this site alone that have built engines.
