Very interesting discovery

Last week I was showing my car to USAF Liutenant Ills at DMAFB which happens to own a black 2003 Evo.

He look at my roof and mentioned something that I have never, ever, ever heard read or seen before , my Evo 8 MR has 2 horizontal bumps in the roof on each side of the roof that streches from the front windshield to the rear window.

I just look at my Evo 9 and it does not have it. Could someone tell me if this is unique only on the Evo 8 MR or on all the 2005 Evos as well. And remember, I am not talking about the vortex generator.

If you already knew about it you have the right to call me noobie, I thought I knew all the differences between the Evo 8 MR and the regular Evo 8 03-04.

Thanks in advance and I am looking forward to get an answer. Also , could someone explain the technical differences as well?

I have seen and read the different roofs on the RS and MR(aluminium), I also knew that the RS and MR don't offer moonroof and that the MR has the vortex but this is about shape...

Thanks again

Carlos

The bumps are because it's aluminum and it provides expansion and contraction due to temperatures and etc. Either that or it's for structual rigidity.

no $hit.... for real?, WOW, I just learn something new today(I am not being sarcastic). So is it for stability in conjunction with the vortex?

Thanks!

Like I said guys, thanks for being so nice to teach me news things, you think you have seen it all and you just really started.

I think I might go to the garage and take a pic so that other people get to know as well but Hey, thank you soo much, I am in constant progression of learning from sharp guys like you.

On the same note guys, I always wanted some leather and moonroof on my Evo. Is there anyone on this forum that already attempted to have a aftermarket or factory moonroof install or is it a NO-NO from the dealer.

Thanks, I am overwhelm by your awsome response. Yes, indeed , that is excatly what I was refering to. I have read the mitsubishi dealer pamphlets a couple of times and I never heard of that before, maybe I missed it when I was reading.

I am glad that you solved my question, I am sure many many people did not know either. To be honest and despite hundreds of pictures than I have taken and despite washing my car so often it could have passed another 5 years and I wouldn't have notice it.

I am trying to narrowed down some more. So far is on the RS and the MR(both aluminium roof) , was it also fitted on the regular 2005 Evo 8?

Carlos, you are not going to replace your aluminum roof with a steel one just so that you can have a moonroof. I would shoot you!

I probably would not have noticed either if you hadn't brought it up.

My '05 Evo (standard model, no SSL package) does NOT have those "fins". I thought it was just an MR/aluminum roof thing...

I wouldn't have noticed it on my own either. I was actually at a local Evo meet last summer and an '04 RS owner and I were talking next to my car. He noticed it and pointed it out to me. He thought it had to do with aerodynamics. Works for me.
