Car co.s have been underestimating their true HP for a long time; goes back to the muscle car era.

I heard it's mainly for insurance reasons, but I bet there are more...

Would the dyno results differ for a regular IX, compared to a IX MR? I know it's the same engine and all, but I wasn't sure if the gearing/transmission has an effect. Either way, that's pretty rad that the engines still have 300+ hp and aren't too far behind the JDM motors.

The WHP numbers are around the same, no EVO dynos exactly the same as another though, so even a 5-Speed IX compared to a 5-Speed IX could have different power, and both make more than a MR IX, but the point is all the cars, RS, GSR, MR are all putting down approx. the same horsepower.

The main reason is this... Nobody really cares if a car's hp numbers are underated. But if they have been overated, mitsu would be in some $hit just like ford with the cobra's and mazda with the rx-8's. It just covers their a$$. Plus, sooner or later, we're bound to see some IX's dynoing right around the advertised numbers. Look at all the diversity we've seen with the VIII's so far.

I dont know if this has already been said, but I am glad they are underrated. Less power would seem to equal less insurance, less reason for the insurance companies to have an excuse to rape your wallet.

I want a IX so bad, it is all I think about. Hopefully by September or something......ahhhhh

I must admit; it's a kind of a relief to be driving a car where every visit to the forum doesn't reveal yet another person whining about how the manufacturer had grossly overstated the car's horsepower. With the RX-8, it went from 250 to 238, and the people on the board were saying the real number was way lower. Always killed my buzz.
