upgrade- on really hot days you will have less heat soak.... heat soak= power loss... a larger more efficient intercooler keeps you from loosing as much power due to the heat... also you might gain a few horses with basic mods, but not a huge improvement... driving your car hard for a prolonged time is where you would notice more of a difference over the stock IC, if any...

He's exactly right. I think its safe to say that less than 1% of the people regestered on these forums have a thorough understanding of heat transfer as well as heat exchangers.

Jeez! $721.53 for a stock IC!

Upgrading is the way to go...

Or you could take the $722 insurance money, buy my perfect condition stock IC for $350 shipped, and pocket the diff.

this may be a stupid question, but will mitsu void the warrenty on your turbo with an aftermarket ic? the way some dealerships are with mods with these cars, it may be something to consider...id get the ams anyway, but just thought id throw it out there.

keep stock cuz then mitsu wont hold their part on the warrenty for whatever reason as they seem to make up each time.

Ok, so after a lot of reading and information hunting, i've finally decided to make my decision. I'm going to go with the Nisei Engineering one with the black IC pipes. I figure if i'm going to be spending about $730 on a stock intercooler, i might aswell upgrade. The only thing is, the Evoshop has them on backorder, so i might have to wait..... **** me.... Now, the only decision is where i can find a front bumper... If anyone has one sitting around (in wicked white and good condition), please let me know!! It will save me a lot of money! Thanks!

Do IT! Cooler air is always better for the turbo engine. Not to mention it will cost less!

I wouldn't recommend buying an upgraded intercooler as a power mod to replace a perfectly good stock one at a low level of modification, but it won't hurt to replace a broken stocker with a Buschur, AMS, or Nisei.
