samething happened on my 03, got it rebuilt under warranty, And DONT use redline. i used it in my t/c, trans., and diff. 3months later the t/c started to whine which lead up to the rebuild,2 months after that my trans. started to grind 4th gear, rebuilt under warr. also. The dealer put in syncroshift(BG)and diaqueen after the work and i never had a problem after that. Two of my friends had the same exact thing happen using redline.I,m not putting down redline its a good product that i,ve used in the past on domestic muscle cars, theyre just not right for evos.

What type of Redline oil did you use? AMS recomends them for everything.

Mine has been making a whirling noise at about 60mph for about 20,000 miles. If I go to 65mph it goes away. It will also make a whining noise from about 35-40mph til I stop. It does in neutral. I've taken it to the dealer and they said they had it documented and it would be taken care of if it failed. I've got about 10,000 miles before the powertrain warranty runs out.

It seemed to do it after I had my Exedy twin disk installed. The dealer knows I'm running a aftermarker clutch as well.

Twin disks will transmit lots of drivetrain noises thru the entire system, especially at certain speeds. My galant sounds like a freight train with its O.S. Giken twin. If you hear a noise thats new with the instalation of a twin, I wouldn't worry as much. Its when a new noise comes afterwards is when I would definatly look into it.

That's what I meant by saying mine has been doing it for 20,000 miles and after my clutch install. Just trying to give these guys some other ideas of what it'll be.

im on about 500 miles after mine started makine the whining noise, but i know exactly why mine is making the noise. I upgraded several bolt on parts and upgraded the clutch. Went to the track, cut a few 1.65 60fts and on the way home it was whining lol. Whats funny is mine only does it from 60 to 65mph also. Doesnt matter if im in neutral, 4th gear or 5th gear. Im glad to see you have gone 20k miles with the noise and no failures, i was kind of nervous about making it though the winter. Shep will be getting a call from me in the spring.
