Buying Evo, used or new?

The one thing that I know for certain is that I WILL own an Evo, it is just a matter of time, and deciding which one (VIII or IX) is the best for me.

Keep in mind I will be buying in September most likely. Unless, of course, an incredible deal comes along.

I have always said I will only buy one new car in my life. For the past few months I have been thinking a new IX is the way to go, especially with the great prices at South Coast. From what I have read on this board, the IX is more powerful, and is just a better all around car than the VIII. This brings me to my dilema. The IX might be more powerful and a better car, but come September, a new IX will still be a hell of a lot more money than a used VIII. Heck, by that time I may be able to find a used IX at a decent price. I also realize that buying a used EVO has its risks. People buy these cars because they are fast and fun to drive. I dont want to get one that has been beaten on.

Money is a huge determining factor, but not the only factor. I figure I could probably find a used VIII right now for 25k. By september, probably less. 25k would be the ideal amount to spend on the car. However, if you think that the extra 6-7k for the IX is without a doubt worth it, please let me know.

You will probably say "well tell us what you want to do with the car." Daily driver of course, and I will at the very least do some auto-x (solo) events. I would also like to do a few lapping days. I don't know about taking the car to the dragstrip, I don't want to break anything expensive right away. I think I would probably just go with the Warrtalon/Buschur package and call it good if I got the VIII, but probably not if I got the IX for fear of voiding the warranty.

Either way I decide to go, this is probably a car I will keep forever.

Here are a couple questions"

1. What would you do? I would really appreciate all opionions, especially from the more knowledgeable people (Warrtalon, etc...), but please explain...Don't just say "buy IX" or buy VIII.....

2. I know I could probably search for this, but if you buy a used EVO, you get half the warranty right? So that is 50k on the drivetrain?

I would buy new. Maybe buy September you might be able to spend a few thousand more. The only time I would buy a used vehicle is if it was a secondary vehicle. My primary car, my pride and joy has got to be new.

New new new. You have no idea what the previous owner did with his car. I shopped used for months and finally gave up and bought new. I have ZERO regrets. The IXs rock so hard.

if you wait till sept. then its gonna be tough to find a new IX. As of August, Mitsu is going to stop Evo production at their Kurashiki plant in Japan i. And the car market will not be getting an Evo for at least 16 months after that. Just found this out from my dealer who was told this by a district sales manager.

start shopping now dood

I'd check your source again.

They stop production of the 2006 in May and start production of the 2007 in August.

But you still can get great deals in the summer

Out of curiousity, why?

BTW, a car like the Evo I'd say new for sure. It's the kind of car that you can almost guarantee has been driven hard, at least several times.

Because buying a new car is a pretty stupid thing to do, speaking finacially. You spend this money, and start to lose thousands by the week/month/year. There really isn't any reason to buy a new car, at least not in my opinion. However, I feel like the EVO is a different animal. It is so unique, that it is probably a better idea to just buy it new, and not worry about previous owners...

Just my opionion.

Bought mine used, it was just that much cheaper, still was able to purchase the 10 year warranty (bought the car with 22K on clock), Im only 22 so i fugure one day ill buy a new car, also since its a daily i would hate to see a perfectly brand new car go through everday abuse(I get dirty at work), its painful to find a new imperfection on your car every two weeks(not really), it would only hurt me worse if it was new.

Bought mine used. Only 22k on her, bone STOCK, including, brakes, and clutch which would give some idea of how the car was driven or abused. Got many photos, and talked with the guy quite a bit.

I've loved every minute of the car, and have not had one problem yet. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

Guess what I'm saying is you can buy a used Evo, but you really have to give the car a major look over and drive, plus see how the seller is.

But I'd trade my VIII for an IX anyday.

I am going to have to go with Warrtalon on this one. You can get a new 9 for a couple grand more than a used 8. I think it would be worth it just because you know the car has not been beat to death. Just that satisfaction alone would be enough for me. Anyway good luck.

Don't listen to the "new" snobs. It's entirely possible to find a nice used Evo that hasn't had the crap beaten out of it. And in doing so, you will save probably 5-7k. Alternatively, look for dealers that still have brand new 05s in stock and you will be able to get a significant discount on a new car.

Bought my RR '03 last october for 21k with only 25k miles on it. If you do go used search around. it's easy to find good deals.

i bought mine new because of some of the new stuff on the IX mainly the bumper ect.... and i also wanted to be the only person who had owned it that way i knew no one had "rigged anything". there are plenty of great used ones but my mind was set to buy a new one, good luck in your search, i know i have seen a few 05's with less than 2k miles on them that people traded for the IX, so check for those they are fairly well priced for the most part
