Exhaust manifold is Stainless
Just an interesting factoid i discovered while drilling in a EGT bung - after dealing with cast iorn subaru crapola manifolds it was nice to see a real stainless exhaust manifold - did not take it off to see how smooth it was inside and if some porting would help - but I was thinking it would be nice to ahve it ceramic coated?
Al,
If you did not remove the manifold how did you install the egt? Did you drill with the motor running? I am in the process of doing it myself but am haviung a tough time removing the manifold.
Thanks!

I would reccommend removing the manifold. Very easy to do. Toughest part is removing the two studs on turbo. Double nut them to remove them. You will need to go to the hardware store and get some metric nuts to do so. While you are there replace the studs with bolts for future turbo area upgrades.

um, sorry. That's a cast iron manifold, just like every other manufacturer. What made u think it was SS?

Thats funny, on my 1G Talon when I swapped it too a 2G manny, the new one was also cast iron, and my 99 GSX, with all of it great stock power has a cast iron manny. I didn't think they poured SS into casts? did they? I thought SS only came in sheets and pipes.

It's not polished stainless steel... It's whatever it is.. The mainfold is steel, not cast iron.. The steel won't crack.. The maifold on the 1G DSM's will crack.. 2G DSM don't... The EVO, won't...
On my wrx, I have polished stainless steel headers.. They are rusting on the surface.. But it won't rust through or crack..

just to clarify, ALL 1g and 2g dsm's, amd ALL evo's use a CAST IRON manifold. You can indeed cast SS but due to cost not too many will do it. The 2g manifold has bigger runners and thicker walls that is the sole reason people swap 2g mani's into 1g's.
