When my clutch was going out I had no problem in the lower gears. I actually ran my car until I could let it idle in first with the clutch out. The dyno is what ate my clutch though.

Dude you clutch is not slipping it's shuddering. My car does it and i've never launched it and it only has 4300 miles on the clock. My 1995 tsi also did on my 60k stock clutch that was launched plenty of times. So I thought my clutch was finally going and bought an ACT 2100 to throw on there and found out the stock clutch still had lots of life left, I didn't care because I had a new clutch and a lightweight flywheel. If your like me and don't rev the car up much before moving you will notice a lot more shudder. Just try reving it a tad bit higher and it won't shudder a bit.

I repeat you clutch isn't slipping don't listen to other people to tell you that your clutch is toast! A clutch will not slip in only first but not any other gear under a load. If your clutch is so bad that it actually slips in first then your car is undrivable. Listen to anybody that knows what there talking about but please don't listen to the amatures. Warrtalon's answer should have been good enough.

I hope this is the case, coming home from work i tested the car in all gears at all speeds, not one sign of slipping.

I guess it is shuddering as you described. I used the term slipping instead.

Yeah your car is fine. But try what I told you before, just trying revving it up just a tad bit more while you let it out. Like Warrtalon said if your clutch starts to not hold the power anymore in higher gears then it time to start searching for a replacement.

yea i would agree.....but something that i have heard a lot about the evo clutches is that they were built for mass production, NOT for the best clutch imaginable......i have had budds with evos that have had them taken apart and seen that the clutches have signs of clutch slippage....something having to do with a pull rather than a push type of clutch that they say is better than the stock one.....but i honestly have had no problems with mine, but then again i have never launched mine in all honesty...LOL!! and after 18,000 miles i have had no problems, BUT i can feel like what one of the guys was saying earlier....shuttering when it is cold outside, and it is only temporary, like he said it only until the clutch gets a little warm, nothing to be worried about.... and a new clutch (A GOOD ONE ) say a EXEDY or maybe a ACT...will cost up to the thousands range... unless your putting some SEAROUS horsepower to those wheels your fine jsut where your at.......have fun with the evo..... lataa

Hey guys
I have a X gsr. Couple of days ago I was cruising on the highway and went into 4th from 5th and took off..when I got into 5th..it slipped. So.I did the clutch test and put it in 5th at low RPMS and mash the gas and it was.slipping bad. Since then I had the carparked for like 2days and today took it to pick up my wife and tried it out again to show her and the car held it..clutch never slipped... why is that? Does my.clutch have mood swings? Is it going bad or naw?

The clutch in my 04 WRX is easy to get hot. I did it one day by neglectfully resting my foot on the clutch pedal at a stop light. When the light changed I had a slipping clutch and clutch smell. After cooling it held fine.

Typically when it starts, it will only get worse. Like most of the earlier part of this post, you'll notice it most during peak boost. Best bet is to start saving for a new clutch. I just had mine replaced and I was driving on a badly slipping clutch for about a month so it's not the end of the world.
