i dont know if this is related, but i also hear a weird noise that I'd associate with the diff.

It happens when I come out of reverse and into first, i hear a fairly loud "CLICK" or "CLINK" and it sounds like something a diff would make, even though i have no idea what potentially a diff noise sounds like.

my car did the same when driving aggressive ecspecialy 1-2 shift its gone now and i would contribute it to learning how to shift the car.

Yeah my car does the same thing, I have the noises when I drive hard, nothing to worry about. The EVO is a car full of noises, so it's something you just got to get use too.

The RPM thing as others have said, is also normal.

at idle i get a light friction noise when my car is parked and running. It almost sounds hydraulic related, or some kind of rubbing noise. But when i press down on the clutch the noise stops. Is this what you are talking about? I've always wondered what it was

Is a bad throwout bearing a loud noise or barley noticable?

Barely noticable.

One more thing I noticed (I come from owning German cars, so now I notice EVERYTHING and get perinoid ) At around 4k rpm and up I hear the front diff more then before, the car now has 500 miles and I start noticing it at 300 miles. The noise is not very loud but it sounds like an "engine with bad lifters", but not nearly as loud. Am I over reacting or is this also one of those things that happens

Thanks alot so far guys, greatly appriciated

Refine your upshifting technique. You could still be smooth and fast at the same time. What probably is happening is that when you upshift (say from 2nd to 3rd) you are letting off the throttle BEFORE the clutch pedal is fully depressed( or depressed far enough to release the clutch), resulting in a fraction of a second of engine breaking. There is slack in the drivetrain that is suddenly picked up once the shift to third, clutch pedal is let off, and the throttle is depressed. Realize that when driving a new car you need to adjust your driving style to familiarize your self with the clutch release point, amount of clutch pedal travel and degree of throttle tip in.

No problem or such noise on my 3 week old MR 9
I'm sure if it drive and runs like new when you picked it up then it's normal.

i only hear that knock sound on the rear diff when i got to the track and really drive the hell out of the car. I hate it but i don't thinks it's anything really bad. Then again, i haven't had anything happen to my evo yet(other than my clutch) 26kmi and counting. hehe. i guess i'm lucky

Yea, I'm getting that down. What about the front diff noise (on post ^ ), do you get any in your IX?

Cant say if I hear any front diff noise. Have 2k on my IX now. I do hear tire noise, exhaust, and turbo noise. Remember these cars have much less sound insulation than most german cars you have probably driven. Drive off to the shoulder a bit and you know what I mean.
