I wasn't suggesting the '03 Evo in particular as a used option. I was thinking more along the lines of '04 or '05/RS or GSR models. I wouldn't even consider the 2003 Evo when looking for a more reliable car given their history.

I am going to be going to school still when I get back from training and buy the car, I want to put between $8-10,000 down on something making my loan balance about $15,000 MAX... stretched over 5 years that is not alot to handle for a monthly payment especially considering I will have $500 per month comming to me from the GI Bill/Drill pay, so the car part will be covered. I'd love to buy a brand new EVO however it sets me over my comfort level with debt, I could work full time and have the EVO but I'd rather go to school. That is why I was thinking about the WRX. I live in New England so the AWD is a plus, also the space is nice. But it is weather or not I muster up the courage to go realistic, or childish and get the EVO regardless of it's "problems". I am really tired of vehicle problems though.

The Gi Bill is paid out only when you're enrolled in school. If your tuition is less than the amount they give you per month, then it's yours to use, but you can't get it without being enrolled in an accredited degree program, vocational school, or certification program.

My WRX wagon has had no problems "other that being hit by a dear... not hitting a dear" for the last 76,000 miles I've put on it. It's been running 17 psi for 90% of it's life by the way. It's not as fast as my new Evo though. It does ride better, has a cooler exhaust note, and can carry much more beer and golf clubs down the road. I rarely get bugged by ricers that want to race me. Only mustang dorks... go figure. It last ran a 13.6 sec quarter at 99 mph in Gainsville, FL so it's not totally slow. It's up to you, you just sound like you need to test drive them back to back and think rationally at this stage in your life.

SpOOledya,

I am one of the ones that not only came from a WRX but also a heavily modded WRX.

My experience can be only described as perhaps the most frustating "sports car" I ever had. Having own nearly 40 cars in my life, I can almost assure you that the WRX was THE worst car in drivetrain realibility and THE MOST disapointing car to mod.

The introduction of the newer 2.5 l WRX has change the Subaru reliability significantly, not only this new engine is more capable but also its newer tranny seens to be beefier.

As a personal view, I take a use Evo(even the 03-04) than a newer WRX, the EVO is so far superior in most of the aspects that the WRX simply CAN NOT compite:
Brakes, seats, suspension, steering, wheels and tires and last but not least the motor. As you noticed, I have not mention the tranny because the first Evos had some Transfer case issues so I think is fair to equal that discrepancy with the WRX tranny issue.

Go and test drive a Evo and go and test drive a WRX, try to have a friend giving you a ride. My vote goes for the Evo but if the newer WRX tranny is realiable then the WRX could be a second good choice.

go to www.nasioc.com and read some more there.

Carlos

Dude you've been a member of these boards for about 2 weeks and you've started 42 threads! Unless you've started 40+ threads on NASIOC in the last 2 weeks I'd say you've already made up your mind. Buy the damn Evo, post a thread with pics of the new car and then learn how to use the search engine.

what GI bills is that, normally the GI bill should get you just over $900 a month. Is that a military GI bill?

Go buy a EVO. Figure $20 per month per $1000 financed. It is worth the extra money.

I really have always loved the EVO, and hearing that there are 03 and 04 owners out there who have had a good life with there EVO makes me want one and hope I win the crap shoot. How much is a transfer case for the EVO anyways, I have heard bad things about WRX's as well. If I were to drive them back to back, the EVO would feel like a Ferrari vs. an RSX base model. I'm sorry but the cars don't even compare, I have driven several of each. I love the EVO, I just hope I can get a good one.

I am going to be Air National Guard, I went for the $15,000 bonus instead of the $20,000 kicker. The kicker won't contribute to my down payment on the car
