Sorry to disappoint you, but the 07 WRX will be exactly the same as the 06. No major changes for it until summer of 2008. Carlos, yes the 02, early 03 WRXs had horrible transmissions and couldn't even handle Cobb stage two. Feel free to buy a WRX, but it's slower than an Evo, harder to mod, and a whole lot uglier.

The GI BILL kicker I believe pays a little over 1100 a month now for 4 yrs worth of schooling . However, like the warr man said you need to be enrolled into some type of school to attain this money. Which is not bad cause while you are in the military you can go to school for free at for example vincennes, National, Columbia, etc etc and dip into your GI BILL if you wanted. Now I know in internet schools are very minimal cost maybe 200 per month depending on # of units taking per semester. So do the math and you are ahead a great deal of money. Plus your base pay, plus if you have COLA pay, plus BAH, plus any danger pay(depending on what MOS you have), etc etc. So the money is there I wouldnt be worried about payments spooled ya. My payments for the 06 evo with low jack and gap is 600.

I came from a 02 WRX to my 03 Evo in February of 04, both cars were new when I bought them. The WRX was a great car, albeit that was before the Evo was around

I didn't beat the **** out of either car all the time, but I did get on them and drive hard quite a bit. Both cars were reliable, with no real problems. My 03 Evo had a warped rotor a week after I bought it, the driver's seat seam cracked a little bit, and the paint on my hood vent peels off. Other than tires and brake pads and such from driving 'spiritedly', that's the only problems I've had with mine.

However being in your same position and thinking about buying a used 03, that's definitely a lot scarier of a proposition. But if you don't destroy an 03, they arent destined to have a million problems for sure.

Whichever you choose, good luck and have fun!

I am not really sure about the comments about things being wrong with 2003 Evolutions... Mine has been as reliable as any Honda.

If you consider the suspension noises (they all have no matter the year), the propensity for the stock dash lights to burn out and the possibility that your wing and caliper paint may peal real problems then the car is a POS... Admittedly that has been a slight pain in the @$$, but not really that bad...

I don't think anything has specifically plagued the 2003s more than other years...

Shouldn't these cars be made to take it? I wish it wasn't so difficult to have the car. Pff, but what about that WRX? I don't like the 06's they just seem like a slight change just like previous years I am hoping 07 brings a completely new car. What do you think? Will I end up wishing I bought the used EVO?

I had an 02 WRX.. The transmission is a glass house (inferior case design with plenty of flex). Are they still using the Bridgestone Potenza RE92? Worst tire I've ever seen. No treadwear yet somehow no grip.

My point is not to expect stellar reliability from Subaru.

On the plus side..
While the body roll from the suspension is less than inspiring, it's an easy fix with endlinks and a sway bar. And At least Subaru finally.. finally put brakes on to actually stop the car this year.

I have a 03 that I bought used. It only had ten thousand miles on it. I change the oil evry 2500 miles, changed the tc and tranny @ 13,900 miles and will continue to do these maintence items early. If you change evrything early and don't beat the **** out of the car then you should be alright. Just because some 03\04 have problems doesn't mean yours will.

I came from an 02 WRX. I loved the car. But love my 03 EVO better. Sorry, short on time.

i really don't understand how you could even compare the two, its like comparing a 6 cylinder firebird to a cobra. Now if you were comparing STi to Evo (like a million threads have before) then this would be more debatable. If you want a nice car that has a little pickup and AWD then get a WRX. If you want a Raw sports car then get an Evo. Enough Said.
