Block Question
:Flame Suit On:
Does the SRT4 share anything with the 4g64? I was at a shop over the weekend and the owner was saying something abou the motor and head being interchangable, does anyone know for sure?

even if you could swap in a srt4 block and put the evo 8 head on it you would still need to find out if it would bolt up to the tranny.
thats if your thinking what i think your thinking.
and i have no clue but its possible .

why would you want to??? Im pretty sure the srt4 shares more in common with a 2g nonturbo eclipse. That swap is pointless as its cheaper to just sell the car and buy a turbo eclipse.
The SRT-4 doesn't have a 420a, avaien. The N/A 89-99 T/E/Ls had the 420a as well as the Neons, but not the SRT-4. I don't know what the original poster is trying to figure out, since the 4g64 has nothing to do with the Evo. It was in the non-turbo Eclipse Spyder.

Other than being obvious characteristics such as 2.4 liters and 4 cylinders with an iron block, there's not much else in common between the srt4 motor and 4g64 or g4cs or g64b's. I'm pretty sure the 420A had an open deck too which makes it even less similar to the 4g series motors, though I'm not sure if the srt4 motor shared that characteristic. SCC did a pretty good writeup on the SRT4 motors a while back. I should have paid more attention, but hey, I'm not a neon guy.
No, I didn't know the non-turbos (there were actually 2: 90hp SOHC and 140hp DOHC) in 89-94 were 4g63s. I thought that was only in the turbo versions (4G63t).
Why did you address me as Clayton? Are we buddies?

Al has addressed him before the same way. In any event, no offense intended.
The 90-94 SOHC didn't have a 4g63 as it was a 1.8L, but the 2.0 DOHC did, it's a great source for turbo dsm parts as the head is the same too with the exception of the cams.
