sirius sat. radio antena location?
I was planning on getting an alpine head unit and sirius satalite radio and doing the install this weekend. I searched and didn't find a lot of specific info on where the best location for reception on our car was. I've heard of on trunk and by the stock antena location. Can anyone with any info or pics help me out, thanks
+1 i was planning on posting this...i have mine on my front dashboard(temporarily) and it gets decent service but gets no signal sometimes. a lot of people mount it on the outside of their trunk, but i would rather kill myself that stick an antenna on my trunk. Anyone have a good spot that gets a good signal????
I mounted the antenna in the center front of the dash. works great no problems. i installed the reciever box behing the back wall of the glove box. so when you open it you dont see it, it is on the right side in the back. it opens with the glove box, but it leaves the glove box with all its room for your goodies. i didnt want it outside.

Mine's on the back dash, next to the speakers. I just wired under the kickplates and up the side of the seat. In my wife's prius, I put it in the front right corner of the dash.
I get perfect reception everywhere, with the exception of long tunnels...

I've got mine on my trunk... right in front of the 3rd brake light. I did not utilize the 5" long black "strip" that they provide that is supposed to go over the wire. I only have issues with picking up terrestrial repeater signals with this setup.
BTW, the Sirius s50 is the greatest thing since mp3 players came out. I leave the player on the cradle all night and it records whatever 3 stations I choose all night, then in the morning you can browse through like 24 hours of music and save the songs you want and clear the rest, then do the same again with different channels. 6+ hours battery life. No, I'm not a sirius salesman

Best place is the roof, however I have had great results with it on my dash. I actually found the installation easier on the roof than on the dash as the wire hid neatly behind the weather stripping. With it on the dash, the wire never hid completely.
Oh, and if you have to install a separate Sirius box/brain also, a good place to put it is behind the cubby below the heating controls. There may even be room to install the head unit there too if you use the radio relocation kit.
